Tough game. Some spurts that looked good for us, but defense especially against the small guards is a huge issue. Hankins played well enough to start IMO. This team will improve, the question is how fast.

Re: Loss to Wisconsin
Won’t win many games shooting 20% from 3’s & 56% from the line. This team needs more to work on more than D & rebounding. Did show some fight late. Hopefully show big improvement as season goes forward. Tough matchups in Maui.

Re: Loss to Wisconsin
Most teams improve during the year and the competition gets tougher in conference. I would be satisfied with 500 record in Big East and then NIT. The jury will be out for a couple of years on Travis. RECRUITING! And bench coaching. Not sure how he can play Harden half a game against Evansville and 0 against WU. I admit he hasn’t played well since ne has been at Xavier

Re: Loss to Wisconsin
I actually am encouraged. I expected it to be a 15+ point loss, and wouldn’t have been surprised by a 20 point loss. The fact that they were able to get the game down to a 2 possession game shows that they have no plans to quit.
The foul on Naji was a terrible call. The Wisconsin player ran right into him. At worst it should have been either a double foul or a no call. With a no call, after Q hits the 3, it’s a one possession game.
Steele probably should have had the players start fouling Harp sooner. He’s a 50% shooter at the line. Was almost perfect from the field. They had fouls to give. Double down and have a guard/wing foul him. Extend the game.
The first two games X has shown the tendency to have a lull going into halftime. This game they went on a 12-2 run to get within one possession. They battled back at the end of the game, too.
Sure, there were problems....Jones didn’t play well and needs to get his emotions under control. They didn’t rebound especially well, gave up way to many offensive rebounds and 2nd/3rd chances. They didn’t shoot well from 3 or the line most of the game. They looked lost guarding the pick and roll. Lots to work on. But unlike some of the other coaches in this town, I believe that Steele and staff not only see the problems, they have a plan to correct them.

Re: Loss to Wisconsin
Poor 3 point shooting killed any chance we had to win(and the FT woes) but defense is the big problem now. Happ had no issues scoring in the paint all night long. More zone might have been a good idea but then they were hitting their outside shots too.#0 was 5 for 5 beyond the arc.Just not our night.

Re: Loss to Wisconsin
They will get better! (I Hope!) Q and Welage 2-15 from 3, poor FT shooting-56%, Jones and Scruggs need an attitude adjustment to be leaders, play a full 40 mins of defense, but with all that being said we were down 3 with under 1 min to go (if the ref had a brain). Admittedly Wisky isn't a F-4 team, but with Happ and team DISCIPLINE (which we really need) they will make some noise. So after we beat Auburn and Duke next week, the season won't look so bleak!!

Certainly no time for panic, but, we also cannot fool ourselves by applying a little lipstick to a pig. Goodin has NOT looked anything remotely like a PG. He is forcing the offense instead of conducting it. I could go on, but after last evening, I am scaling back my expectations a bit further.

+1, it's a glaring issue and will be tough to deal with when we hit teams with good pg play.X-lucidity wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 12:17 pmCertainly no time for panic, but, we also cannot fool ourselves by applying a little lipstick to a pig. Re: Loss to Wisconsin
It seems that neither Goodin nor Scruggs is a true point guard, but what is most alarming is the defense that Goodin was attempting to play yesterday. The recruiting woes that last two years are beginning to show, especially at PG. Is Harden hurt because I find it really incredible that he can't provide some doesn't meetings over Kennedy especially since he is supposedly our second best shooter. Jones was acting like a fourth grader and Hankins needs to realize to stop running his month unless he can back it up. Hack a Happ should have started earlier.

Goodin is a pg, but must have hit his head and now thinks he's Tre Bluiett. He is very good scoring and distributing in the lane. Any team with gladly concede the 3 to him. Scruggs dribbles too high and wide to be an effective dribbler. He has the potential to be a very good scorer, especially when he backs his defender into the lane.skyhops wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 7:13 pmIt seems that neither Goodin nor Scruggs is a true point guard, but what is most alarming is the defense that Goodin was attempting to play yesterday. They are not a good 3 point shooting team, but when you take bad 3's, it magnifies the deficiency. Welage is the only one who should have the green light. However, Goodin obviously does too. Hopefully, the film session will open Steele's eyes, and he'll reign him, and Marshall in.
