Possible new assistants...

Postby Theology73 » Sat Mar 31, 2018 4:16 pm

I truly hope at least one is a former player from the past ten years. Lots of viable candidates there. My choice would be Dante. Who would you like to see?
Mark Twain was wrong. Golf is NOT a good walk spoiled. It is a shared personal experience in a majestic wonderland guided by God, whose name is called frequently during the round.

Dante has jumped from one job to the next for the last 3 years. not sure if that's because the head coach left or was fired but that raises some red flags, IMO.

i wonder if Brian Thornton would leave Ball State to come back to X. be nice to have a "big man" coach since Pegues left.

And Brian always seemed like a genuinely fine person --- the type parents of 4- and 5-star recruits would want taking their sons under his rather large wing! And with his experience in coaching (and playing, both in college and professionally under numerous fine coaches), he would be an excellent choice for Coach Steele in the building of his staff.
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!

Would think that TS would look for a guy that has some East Coast connections like Luke and Pegeus had
Also maybe take AH's advice and get a veteran bench coach
Like Thornton as a coach to help the bigs

Let's reach and bring in James Posey. He has to be tired of the circus in Cleveland. Love to see a former head coach as well. I like the Brian Thornton idea.

Lets think outside the box!

I say lets make a SPLASH with an assistant coach. I can think of 2 players that were much better at St.X, while CM was there. Scott Martin OR Chip Reeves. I am sure both would be excellent choices for an assistant for Coach Steele. In addition, if we want to go the route of NCH and better athletes then that of Chris Mack, who also grew up In NCH and also would serve as a GREAT assistant to Coach Steele, look no further then Chuck Broadnax or Yatz Schmidt. Finally, if none of those options appeal to coach Steele, understandable, how about former GHS great Joe F. OR Bacon Alum Brian Kocher.

In addition, I would like to note that it comes from some very reliable sources that Mack learned to play "ball" in 2 different places. 1. The Brentwood swim club, which of course was behind The Brentwood Shopping Center and, 2. Whitaker Elem. in Finneytown. Chip Reeves also use to hang out there with Mack. Scotty Martin of course another former GREAT at St. X went to those two former St.X hangouts but thought the competition there was no where near as good as compared to Winton Woods. Martin, Joe F., Broadnax and Schmidt all hooped there at Harbour Pointe, playing pick up games.

Happy Easter Xavier nation and

How about John Groce? He is a former Xavier assistant, under Thad Matta, along with being head coach at Ohio U and Illinois. current HC at U of Akron. Most importantly, he is coach Steele’s BROTHER. Still being paid by U of Illinois to the tune of 1.7 million and only getting 350K from Akron. Could probsbly make more as a Xavier top assistant.

If Xavier wouldn’t allow Sean Miller to hire Archie, I doubt they would allow Travis hire John Groce.

Had forgotten about that. But different time and different people in charge now, hard to say if that is still the rule.
