That may not have happened, but if he is their top candidate they're dialed in enough down there to know that they are going to have to overpay to get a solid coach given their situation. That said, it will likely be big money long term. LIkely quite a bit more than what Miller got from Az. Hard to walk from that kind of security and you're the only game in town in a pretty nice city to live. There's only a handful of jobs you can get that. You never know though, maybe some higher profile guy could be in the mix.

It’s not a joke and it is not looking favorably for X.

let's look at it from the numbers. Lets say UofL's offer is 7 mill for 7 years guaranteed. 49 mill. X's offer is 3 mill for same period 21 mill. Chris would be leaving 28 Mill on the table.

WHAT WOULD ANYONE HERE DO???
Let's say you have a job and someone other business offers to MORE than double your salary. What would you do?
And if you don't take it what would your spouse say to leaving that money on the table.

And Skyhops is right it is dam serious

It's even bigger than that. At his age, and their history of retaining coaches it could be a lot more over time. Any agent will tell you(and it's their #1 job first and foremost) that there is only a limited opportunity to get that kind of money. Even schools that can afford it often will not pay it. Thus, it's not always there if you count on it being the case. The shine wears off coaches and players professionally much quicker than folks realize. X could very easily have missed the tourney in 2017, and instead makes a run giving Mack more cred. Next year if he stumbles, he may not be a first tier guy if a job comes up the next several years. Also, there is no guarantee with the badly declining media situation that this kind of money will be around in the future. Fans look at it as if it's always staying the same, but it's not. He may not care about that kind of money, but X is going to have to come up with money to keep him, and likely should. If they feel a lower cost replacement will maintain the brand, that's their call as well.

I agree With Muskieman and can’t blame him if that is the offer being made. What sucks is if he does leave he will probably takes assts, strength coach’s, and others behind the scenes that have provided a lot over the past few years not to mention recruits etc. Oh well,we have been down the road before and it has worked out.

The only coach that stayed with a team/school for a long time and did not leave his teams or his employer was Wooden of UCLA. He did not leave for monies or anything. The rest have. I do not blame any coach for changing for more money and guarantees, because most schools would fire their coach or coaches in a heartbeat for almost any cause.
