Bewildering Stats

Postby xu koop scoop » Sat Jan 06, 2018 2:15 pm

Only watched 2nd half today as chores kept me away. In last 30 seconds of game I see Stats showing us with 43 Rebounds vs 27 (+16), but
more perplexing X has 22 second chance pts to ZERO for Providence. Tell me that at tipoff & I say we win. Bluiett was horrendous the 2nd half & JP not much better. If you tell me Kanter scores 23 & Jones hits all 4 FT, I think we win. Without Kanter I guess we get slaughtered.
Still a nice day in sunny Florida. Gonna enjoy it. Hats off to Providence

The ugly part of the stats from P game. STEALS: X 2, P 11. BLOCKS X 3, P 9. TURNOVERS X 15, P 9.

The calculus of loss is in your two posts.

We got 16 more possessions than them off of rebounds, but then wasted 12 of our possessions by throwing the ball away or taking a (too) well contested shot (Tre's blocked three attempt was the worst of the game, at the worst possible moment).

But that is just the way it is on the road on the Big East. In my opinion, the decisive factor was FT shooting. We shot 11 of 17, and they shot 20 of 22. All else held constant, if both squads shot their average from the line, then we would have won the game. We also normally get more FT attempts per game...

We hounded the boards, but broke down at the line. We need to do both on Wednesday to have a chance.
Let's March!
