I like to keep an eye on other Big East teams and have turned on the St. John's game. Malloy College? Division 2 school? Are you serious? That certainly does not help their resume later in the year, nor does it help any of the other Big East teams.

The good news is that the game should be finished in plenty of time before the 830 tip off for X

Going into tonight's games, KenPom had BE ranked 2nd - Big 12 was 1st
SJU probably didn't help the rankings tonight nor will X beating a lower level school like Hampton

Marquette beats VCU
Creighton is winning against UCLA with about 5 minutes left
That would be a big W for the BE if they can hold on

SJU and GU aren't going to help the league with their OOC scheduling and frankly, i don't care. i especially don't blame Patrick Ewing for scheduling the way he did, taking over a program that was in the dumpster. he needs to build something and sometimes that starts with giving your team some confidence with some wins.

our top 2/3 will take care of the reputation for the league.

Actually, games vs Division 2 opponents do not count towards the selection committee evaluations. In terms of the final RPI, games vs lesser opponents impact depending how that team does in the lesser league. It is more likely that our game vs GW will have more of a negative impact than our game vs Rider, for instance. GW's own expected winning percentage will affect our RPI more than the fact that GW plays in a better league than Rider. Rider should do reasonably well in their league this year and that will actually help us.

It's too early to read too much into RPI rankings, but for this discussion, I like http://www.rpiforecast.com/live-rpi.html and if you look at the bottom table after selecting Xavier, there is a column "Exp. Impact" or the expected impact on a team's RPI.

But I am pretty sure only D1 opponents count in the RPI as well. (Don't know about KenPom etc.)

Also, which team (GW or Rider) will have the most negative effect on our RPI will be a combination of their W-L and their opponents W-L. If their final win percentages are comparable, then Rider will most likely have the biggest negative impact because of the collective number of OOC losses of their conference opponents. The MAAC has a W% of about 31% right now, whereas the A10 has W% of about 51%. All conferences go (approximately) .500 against conferences.

Now, if Rider is near the top of the MAAC and GW is near the bottom of A10 by season's end, then it is likely that GW will be pulling us down more than Rider.

Far too early to think about RPI.

Moreover, we often forget virtually every other team plays similar teams early in the season. To wit, Arizona has UMBC and CSU Bakersfield; Duke has Utah Valley and Elon; Michigan State faces Stony Brook and Houston Baptist.

Winning games is what is important. RPI's will fluctuate dramatically at this point and are set in jello.
