In one corner we have metrics. Remember Moneyball? In the other corner we have human experience otherwise know as "Your Gut." Which is best? Answer: Both must work together. Metrics are tools. They can be overused and abused. Note the word "filter" in the story. Very important to filter the numbers, not to be overwhelmed by them.
To be balanced in the use of stats, and not be oversold on them is, and will be a continuing issue in our social, sports and business cultures.

Why not go all the way and develop robots that can play the game.
