Getting to dance
My opinion: to have a chance we have to beat DePaul and Butler. Then we are on the bubble if we lose the next game. If we win the next game we are in. Just my opinion. Does anyone think we have a chance if we beat DePaul and lose to Butler???

Re: Getting to dance
I would like to see us beat butler then beat creighton or #6 seed to get to finals. Villanova wins BE Tourney, but if Nova gets beat in 1st 2 rounds then X might win BE Tourney

Re: Getting to dance
Mack's teams have never done well in conference tourneys and I believe have only made one Big East final, so one game at a time. We can't get behind tonight by 11 like last Saturday. We lose we go home and host an NIT game.

side note - i don't think we can host an NIT game at Cintas because of construction starting.

A loss and we're out.One win and we're still last 4 in which means watching a lot of other games and hoping other bubble teams lose.Make the semi-finals,we can sleep easy.

-Terrible in conference tourneys
-Terrible on defense
-Terrible free throw shooting
But Re: the subject. ESPN bracketology right now has us as a 12 seed play-in game. If they are accurate, we will be a play in game if we beat DePaul (imo).

LOL, yes they've only played in the finals 1 out of the 3 years possible. I don't remember Miller's teams exactly tearing up Atlantic City.skyhops wrote:Mack's teams have never done well in conference tourneys and I believe have only made one Big East final, so one game at a time. In fact, Mack has played for the conference championship twice, compares to Miller's one time at X, which was during a season (2006) that you would have been apoplectic on Mack's performance. Another dumb post, but not surprising considering the source.
Incredible on this board how many openly state they have extensive basketball knowledge, but can't get basic facts straight or at the least rewrite history to fit their narrative. Impressive.

PCP, you are going to debate anything I post but I will put my knowledge and playing experience next to your CYO playing career. Not comparing Miller although most would agree he was our best coach. Mack has even said they have not done well in concerned tourneys. For the record meet Mack many times. He did dunk in warmups

Re: Getting to dance
We will NOT get in unless we beat Butler. Plain and simple. Of course that means winning tonight as well.
Nor would we deserve to get in nor would I want us in if we cannot beat Butler. A caveat to that would be only if we lose to Butler on OT or a last second shot. Then I would feel we warrant bubble status. Come on folks! Yes we love and root for our team, but at some point, you need to win a meaningful game down the stretch...

Re: Getting to dance
Like it not, the magic formula in the new Big East is at least .500 in league play and at least 20 wins by season's end and we should get in each and every year. Just like all the power basketball conferences.
The big concern this year is that going .500 in league play required us to lose 6 of our last 7 games, and 4 of those 6 losses were against 3 teams that were previously on the bubble. So we have had a bad finish to the regular season and have given three conference opponents (Marquette, Seton Hall and Providence) top 50 wins that have made them near locks for an auto bid. The funny thing is that if we had the same record, but had gone 3-4 instead of 1-6 the last 7 games, we would be just fine right now...
What we should also be worried about is all the talk about this skid being due to the loss of Sumner. Losing Sumner was a huge setback, but our top scorer, Trevon, was out two of those losses and was struggling through an injury for at least three more. He seems to be back to form. Hopefully the selection committee is more observant than ESPN talking heads...
If we lose to DePaul, we will need all other bubble teams below us in the pecking order to lose their next game and no upset champions in the multi-bid leagues. So, essentially, we should assume NIT if we lose to DePaul.
If we beat DePaul in NYC and Trevon has a solid game we should be in.
If we win at least two, we will be all but a lock with 21 wins, .500 in the third best league, 4 top 50 RPI wins, and no bad losses.
But we would still need to keep an eye on Wake Forest and Kansas State even if we won two. Those are the only two teams who could then pass us in the pecking order by winning a couple games in their tournaments. The other bubble teams would have to win their tournaments to pass us.
The best thing to do would be to win our first BE tournament!
