I found this story from Indiana regarding Scruggs. I had hoped he would be a 3 or 4 year guy, but now I don't know. Is this story legit? By that, I mean his reasons for going to a prep school?

Old story old news. I have always figured Scruggs as a one and done. It is what it is.XU Captain wrote:I found this story from Indiana regarding Scruggs. I had hoped he would be a 3 or 4 year guy, but now I don't know. Is this story legit? By that, I mean his reasons for going to a prep school?

I was afraid of that after reading this. I hope Xavier resists from becoming a Calipari-like machine that forgets its mission is academics first. It sounds like Scruggs family are already wringing their hands with the money they expect him to make as an NBA player.olsingledigit wrote:Old story old news. Anytime you see a great young player, you now wonder how long he'll stay in school. It's great that we're getting highly rated high schoolers but that's what comes with it.The days of D West or Romain Sato type players staying for 4 years is a thing of the past I fear.

Re: Should Xavier be concerned about this?
So, if I am reading this board correctly lately, there is a vast contingent that is not impressed with Goodin because he has not resembled Chris Paul here in his Freshman season ever since being forced into the spotlight after a devastating injury to our 3rd year starter. That same contingent questions Chris Mack for believing the silly national recruiting rankings and offering Goodin instead of Mr. Basketball in Ky. We seem unable to be patient and enjoy the prospect of Q improving over his career and blossoming, (like Dee Davis or Lionel Chalmers), during a nice 3 to 4 year stint. Now we don't like Paul Scruggs since he is maybe too talented and might kick so much freaking ass next year that he is one & done...

X-Lucidity, great reply!! College basketball is a different animal !! If we as fans do not like the atmosphere of one and done's , transfer's because of lack of PT, players with NBA mentality(not playing team ball) etc. then perhaps we should follow woman's volleyball or men's baseball???
I am impressed that a kid of this caliber is even considering Xavier!! We have jumped up a serious level of competition in the Big East and its tough to find players capable of competing at this level. For example, who on our team would start for Villanova? They are good and deep!! We barring injuries are good just not deep....YET!! Mack knows what he's facing and knows he needs more depth to compete in this very tough league..

I wouldn't be concerned about. He hasn't even gotten here yet. The turnover we've had in recent years, it's best to look at it one year at a time. If 4 year guys are desired, i do not think that is the underlying assumption in the recent recruiting resume.

You're just figuring out that sports fans are completely unreasonableX-lucidity wrote:So, if I am reading this board correctly lately, there is a vast contingent that is not impressed with Goodin because he has not resembled Chris Paul here in his Freshman season ever since being forced into the spotlight after a devastating injury to our 3rd year starter. Re: Should Xavier be concerned about this?
4 of us had season tix from 1986-2006. All gave em up as decreased interest in college bball & football for these reasons: 1. increased ticket prices, 2. coaches getting millions 3. players leaving early for pros, esp 1 and dones. 4. no conference or rivalry loyalty - hated seeing us give up Miami Ohio & UD home and away series. Think conferences should tighten up geographically. Seriously, UC, Dayton, Xavier ought to be same conference, but instead they are 3 different leagues. Call us old fashioned, but we enjoyed the days when 1 team per conference got a bid. Of course then there weren't conference tourneys. And we respected the NIT. Too much about the money now & everything rides on your NCAA Tourney success. Used to be equal pride in winning your league & winning your league tourney. We still watch many XUgames on TV but interest in other teams is completely gone. I do immensely enjoy the chatboards - as much or more than the games - while I winter in Florida. Keep the posts/comments coming

Re: Should Xavier be concerned about this?
Amen to most of what you say, Hoop Scoop. To me the most egregious change, which killed my NBA interest and has my college bball interest on life support, is the liberalization of traveling. Guys now take three or four steps, often riding the ball on their hip like a halfback, and it's considered a "great move." Adding to the problem is how does one guard a player who can just walk away from him? Demonstrative officials who consider themselves part of the show are also a negative (see that Henderson clown from the other day and earlier X games). I still go as my end zone memories from Schmidt won't permit me to quit it all together, but a lot of the enjoyment is gone.
