Offense/1-3-1 D

Postby X-Expert » Sun Jan 22, 2017 3:54 pm

This team really struggles on offense. Its all about waiting for Sumner to bail them out. Even Sunderman commented how its hard to believe how this team struggles with so many good offensive players. Time to either dump the 1-3-1 or go to a traditional zone. This is a bad G-town team. they are 1-5 in BE for a reason. They are a bad 3 point shooting team. Team bench not developed at all. Goodin plays like an average frosh and below average at the line 11-24. Team needs answers. Seeing Marquette dismantle Creighton at Creighton may expose X that much more. X should win like all teams in BE do again G-town but the fact that it is nip and tuck is telling,

I think the offense struggles because almost every player we have does one thing really well but not much else making us easy to guard.

Ed-- can get to the bucket like no one else, but has little confidence in his jumper. So they play off him and let him drive on one guy and then collapse on him at the basket forcing a circus shot.

Kaiser-completely one dimensional, has become a big, strong, 6'8 spot up shooter only who does nothing else.

Omara/gaston- big guys obviously but essentially have a back to basket type game with rudimentary footwork/moves and no ability to stretch the floor at all.

Bernard- god bless him the guy busts his butt and has been a pleasant surprise shooting but really is not polished offensively.

Tre/JP- clearly the most all around players. However, they both go through long periods in games where they just look to shoot or pass around the top. Tre obviously not being a Super athlete is much more of a shooter and someone that can be guarded if he does try to drive (although he has a great knack for drawing the foul). JP when he gets aggressive is good but he often goes through lulls where he isn't at all.

Goodin unlike most on this team plays great D and will gain confidence on the offensive end. Tre and JP need to average 20 because they give up that much on offense. Time to ditch the 1-3-1 zone which GU picked apart for 4 three's and various jump shots. This team does not know if it is up by 10 or down by 10.

Yes,

We have. However, I have enjoyed your self-righteous posts recently. I'm sure you're consistent with your beliefs 100% across the board. Assuming you're American, I have to believe you have never criticized, nor support the right of any other American to ever criticize:

-the economy
-foreign relations policies
-war against Isis
-torture of war prisoners
-bailing out of the banks
-illegal immigrants
-Watergate
-taxes
-healthcare reform
-entitlement programs

PM me and I'll send you a link with 14,000+ other things which were supported by one, or the other administrations and some Americans during the history of this nation. If you have ever criticized any of these, I guess you can't consider yourself a good American.

Seacrest out!

After reading your interesting follow-up to my simple post. I suspect we have much more in common than I would have guessed. I find criticism important. But I think when I'm supporting a "team" I like to give it balance and also review the positives . Interesting that you label me self righteous, could be true, but not sure that when one reads your last post they could not help thinking....the kettle calling the pot..... you do seem a tad hyper sensitive but I can relate. But regarding X basketball I was at the game and I saw an improving team that (as I've said for awhile) will be winning some games in the big dance. No we are not there yet but getting there. The fun is in the journey. Peaking early always sucks.

We went zone b/c of the foul trouble mainly. I think Mack knows it hasn't been nearly as effective as last year primarily b/c we have post defenders that cant.....well......defend.

I agree. Our post players are strictly post players. Gates needs to be our inside/out guy but to date he hasn't shown that ability. I hate to criticize because he may not be healthy after his knee surgery yet but he hasn't shown anything close to the defense that he gave us last year.
