Mack's radio show

Per Shannon Xavier’s respite from games couldn’t have come at a better time, as several Musketeers fell ill following Monday’s loss to No. 7 Creighton at Cintas Center.
Coach Chris Mack said on his radio show that three players were out sick Wednesday and two were out Thursday. Some of those afflicted have had high temperatures. Others have been throwing up.
“I think our guys had a really good practice today despite limited numbers,” Mack said.
He hopes more players return to the fold as Sunday’s 2 p.m. game against Georgetown grows closer. Mack also has a pregame press conference Friday at Cintas Center so media may know more then about the status of the sick players.
Other quick hits from the radio show:
* Freshman Tyrique Jones aggravated the patellar tendon (which attaches the top of the shinbone to the bottom of the knee cap) during warm-ups before Creighton. After dunking against the Bluejays, he was bothered again by his patellar tendon and briefly left the court. Mack said XU has been using “kid gloves with him” ever since.
* While defense is usually a work in progress for many freshmen, Mack said it’s the opposite for Quentin Goodin. The rookie point guard has been in the right places and done an effective job defending thus far. His offense is more of a project. Mack envisions Goodin playing more minutes as the season progresses and would like to see him be a more aggressive shooter.
* Edmond Sumner is playing through two left shoulder ailments, neither of which affects his shooting arm. Sumner hurt his shoulder at Villanova and again at Butler.
* There’s a pre-Crosstown Shootout Chris Mack Radio Show at 7 p.m. Monday at The Holy Grail. Xavier plays UC at Fifth Third Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday in an ESPN2-televised game.
