I just noticed that we (could) possibly play Northern Iowa twice in a row!?

Who was the genius who put this schedule together?

First, it's COULD, it's not will..yet

Second, we don't know when the regular Northern Iowa and when the Tourney were scheduled in relationship to each other. It's possible that the regular game was scheduled long before the tourney was set up. Must we assume then that Xavier had some type of crystal ball that told them back then that NI would be in the same tourney, so don't schedule them?

Third, I'm pretty sure Xavier had little or no imput into how the tourney was bracketed

Forth, you are assuming that both teams win today and that certainly isn't a given

Fifth, relax. What's the big deal? It's not like it hasn't happen to teams before.

Have a nice day.....

For exempt tournaments you can have up to 4 games. Xavier and Northern Iowa scheduled this game as a non bracketed exempt tourney game. As such Xavier got one additional home game and N. Iowa took some extra buy money. The only way to get the extra game and was to play a team in the Puerto Rico Tipoff, otherwise it could not count as an exempt game.

It was actually smart to do it this way. XU gets a free home game against a team that is generally in the top half of one of the top mid major conferences.

Northern Iowa vs. Oklahoma game goes to OT.
OU blows a double digit lead with about 5 minutes to go.
They over 11 minutes without a FG.
N. Iowa takes the lead...up 3...travel TO...and OU hits a 3 to put the game in OT.

Same thing happened in 2014. We beat Long Beach State by 20, then lost to them by 3 in the Wooden Classic 12 days later. This happens at times in these exempt tournaments. It is tough beating a team twice in a short period of time, but it also happens in league play, so I see it as a great learning experience. We play Marquette twice in 11 days this season.

Saw it was 49-37 with about 8 to go and joked to myself how these games that I pay attention to never get close and how there was a thread on here about playing UNI twice...only paid attention when I saw it was OT and watched as Carlson hit the tie breaking 3...great comeback by UNI, heard they were down 18 at one point

It sucks not being able to play Oklahoma and UNI, but a potential sweep of UNI is very appealing as well...it won't be easy.

As far as double match ups because of exempt tourneys, we had a chance to play Butler 5x (I believe) in a year if we had met in the exempt tourney, the conference tourney and the NCAA finals...so twice against the same team isn't that crazy.

EDIT: I'm probably wrong about Butler, but I could swear we were in the same exempt tourney as them at the start of the "new" Big East and our teams got permission to be in the same tourney.
