Tyrique Jones

I have to be reminded it is but one game but nonetheless, Tyrique Jones showed last night the upside he has. Granted he needs to finish near the rim and that will happen as he adjusts to big time college basketball but his physical play grabbing 11 rebounds, 2 block shots and no personal fouls is impressive in a game that had 58 PFs (ridiculous) called. He played great off ball defense to alter shots, take charges or the one block/assist to Edmond.

Tough to be without Gates and Davis, but the minutes and development of our new players now will be a blessing come February and March.

Go X!!

Had my first look at this kid last night and by god does he have the rebounding and shot blocking genes.

I don't know what it is about those things but some guys can just do it and some can't. And tyrique jones can do both. He had two or three massive blocks with another 2 where someone else fouled the offensive player before he made the block.

He somehow finds his way to the top of every group when going up for a rebound. He's got IT, whatever "it" is.

His offensive game hasnt quite found the speed yet. I think he actually seemed to be moving a. It too quickly as I'm sure he's anxious. But he'll be able to finish at the rim. Not sure if he has much of a post game developed yet or not.

Mack said after the Lehigh game that TJ was much better than he had played

The other thing I really liked was that he also drew 2 charges. Sometimes guys don't want to stand in there and draw the charge but rather go for the block attempt.
He did both last night and seemed to have the "knack" for knowing what the situation called for.
I'm sure he will have some ups and downs this season but he is going to be a player.

Good point on the two charges. His energy and rebounding are very encouraging especially with O'Mara fouling often. A young Jalen?

All of those things add up to outstanding basketball IQ for a true freshman. I'm really looking forward to watching him this year and in the future.

I like his motor, shot blocking ability and nose for the ball. His offensive game will come.......not worried about it

Differnent than jalen. Not quite the athletic freak he was (but quite gifted). Seems to be wayyyy smarter and more disciplined.

He has much better defensive skills than Jalen at the same point.
