Trying to follow this game on my computer sucks. Might be better if the site worked the way it was designed.

Three people are tweeting including Shannon. 6/18 free throws, 1/6 crom deep, maybe double digit turnovers.
Ul 35/23. Nobody seems impressed.

Game was never in doubt and the new guys had some jitters but we do have some rebounders. Ferris was not much of a challenge and X played ragged at times which kept Ferris in the game for a while. I like Gaston and Bernard but this team will revolve around the trinity of Ed, Tre and JP as they did today. Ed appears to me crazy good so far and he was intercepting everything they threw inside in the first half, or so it seemed. Ed poured in 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out six assists and had 4 TOs but three happened in first part of game as he was playing too fast. Toward the end of the game it looked JP and Tre were trying to see who could score the most as they got hot and put the game out of reach, actually more out of reach. The foul line was not kind to the new guys and I heard shades of Farr his first year.
Gates was on floor before the game and word is he might be ready for Lehigh but I would be surprised if they play him.
One thing I might add, Tre is like 196 or 198lbs, and his body made every one take a double take because he looks slim and trim...and has a nice M. Davis beard.
stats: Ferris State shot 26.5 percent (12 percent from 3) shot 51.8 percent throughout. FT shooting wasn't as solid: 17-for-33 (35.7 percent).
Malcom Bernard finished just shy of a double-double with 9 points and 10 boards. He looks to stay a starter.
Sumner and Bluiett had more than half of Xavier's points (42). Macura had 16 points, went 6-for-6 on FGs
The walks-ons looked like the X teams of the 70s Although one guy did bank in a three and the crowd went wild.
Bad game Sean O'Mara (0-for-6) needs to score evern with guys on his arms like Farr and Stainbrook did.
Scary moment: other than Sumner and JP crashing to the floor every time they drive to the basket, was when Tyrique Jones came down awkwardly on another player's foot and twisted his ankle. As he lay on the floor I am sure a number of people wondered what it meant butMack said later he was fine. He did come back into the game for a few minutes and seemed fine. He is a guy that will get 7-10 minutes and while big needs some work in the weight room.

I was there and the stars from last year (Tre, JP and Ed)looked good. The only new person I was encouraged by was Bernard. FT shooting by Jones, Goodin and Gaston very bad. Sean 0 for 6 and all shots were from 1 foot and 0 for 1 from the line. Also looked slow on d. We will need Gates.

I'm officially afraid. We were awful in the paint. 6 points? We will not win with only the three and Bernard. Hurry bavk, der Kaiser. Omara and Gastn? I grade them minus. D.

It was an exhibition game that exhibited weak spots, things that need work.
In Mack I trust!

The good news: We have talent and will score against anyone
The non-so good news: The frontcourt
26+6=1

Went by myself, moved down to 3rd row, mid-court as plenty of folks did not show. I was going to write up a recap but Muskieman's is solid. I will add a couple extra takes:
1) Bernard was more than I had hoped for. Scrappy, high motor, could easily defend (with effective D) versus a "2", "3" or "4". Possibly even an opposing PG if called upon. The kid hustles and is long & quick for a legit 6'7" slasher. A couple times I thought he just put his head down and drove & should have kicked it out to a wide open Tre 3-pointer attempt, but he does not appear selfish, so I am sure the coaches can point those opportunities out on film. Bottom line though, he is wiry strong and can penetrate. Great late pick-up for Mack especially given our current plight!
2) Goodin. Ran into quick foul trouble that plagued him all game reducing his effective minutes. He is raw, to be sure, but a true Frosh. He has the body already of a Big East guard but looks fluid and quick! Great upside, he will be fine with time and probably sooner rather than later. I would compare Goodin to being somewhat similar to Stanley Burrell.
3) Tyrique Jones. Again, like Goodin, RAW! But Good Lord, he is already a man-child oozing with natural rebounding talent and runs the floor with enthusiasm. His broad shoulders will easily allow him to add 30 or so pounds of muscle in the next couple years. Look out by the time this true Freshman is a Junior.
4) JP, Tre and Ed all looked fab. There was no one on the outclassed Ferris squad that could challenge Ed but this will not always be the case. That said, Ed looks stronger & drips with talent.
5) Rashid & Sean. Well, Oreobob said it best a few posts ago. Folks, this was downright discouraging. I know Sean can play better as we have seen it in spurts. He seemed to lack his normal hand/eye coordination tonight as some passes were juggled and he missed about three somewhat contested layups. We know what we have in Sean. A true half court post player who is more effective on offensive end. That said, tonight was not his night. Rashid, - - was hopefully nervous and can only go up from here. I loved his effort. He showed heart and strength. I obviously do not see practices and will reserve further judgment as he did not seem to have any effective post moves tonight against weak competition. On the positive side, he is a willing and capable post defender. Strong young man who looked to work well moving his body on defense while the opposition rotated the ball around. Rashid was very effective boxing out. We need post D, especially given Sean's lack of strength in that area, so I appreciate Gaston's talents and efforts to be sure.
*** Again, it is the very 1st preseason game and plenty of time to work out the kinks. We are missing two vital cogs to our machine and their hopeful return will help out considerably. The added PT that Goodin, Jones and Bernard will enjoy until we are back at full strength should pay dividends down the road. * Just glad to finally be talking about action on the court!
