Actually, Kobe Bryant said the same thing on Dan Patrick's show (that every year, he wishes he had gone to college just so he could play in the NCAA).
And contrary to those rumors that had Kobe going to LaSalle if he played any college ball, I think he said he would have gone to Duke.

Was he highly recruited in high school? Maybe he was not on Duke's radar and only LaSalle knew about him.

Kobe was VERY well known in H.S. But as the assumption was that he would go straight to the NBA, I can't say how much he was recruited.
Kobe said he went to Duke, met w/Coack K, and liked the program, so that would have been his #1 choice if he attended any college.
