Almost 45 years ago, David Thompson, who played a N.C. State, set the bar for leapers with a 44 inch vertical. "FACT: 'I could tip a quarter off the top of the backboard,' Thompson said. 'But I couldn't put anything else up there.' Also, Thompson was closer to 6-3 than 6-4. But he had an astonishing, 44-inch vertical leap."
