I just heard today that the tentative ground breaking for the huge Xavier property at Dana and Montgomery is scheduled for next week. Although a small part of the acres may be kept for Xavier uses....the majority of the land is being leased out for private development and use. No hotel. Just stores, restaurants, other businesses and I have no specifics on what exactly. Seems to be a done deal.

I'm sure XU has some benefit here. Either they are getting ground lease rent, benefit "in kind" for the use of the apartments or the developer will build the new Student Fitness Center on his dime.

I believe it's Xavier land and they are renting/leasing it to the companies (bars, apartments, etc.), right?

Article below should answer your questions. Looks like a land lease.

The challenge will be finding a way to keep the townies out of the development. If they cant make it safe, it will fail.

If it is competitive to the Follett run bookstore on campus, it may be a good thing. That place is expensive.

I hope this will provide some campus area options for students and visitors. If this is successful, maybe a hotel will be built in the future for visitors to use.

Throwing in a place to park land yachts such as mine would also be beneficial.
