Pat Kelsey‏@patkelsey18m
Heard from my pal Dezmine Wells 2nite. One of the neatest kids I've ever been around. Great player. better kid. Miss him.
For all the guys that knocked Dez but love Pat, your comments?

Love both. Can't say anything except Dez got railroaded. Everybody around the Xavier basketball program knows that.

Don't know why we need to rehash all this again. I do not believe Dez was "railroaded" or that it was anybody's fault but his own. That does not make him a bad person - and I have no reason to think that Pat K is wrong in his observation. Kids do dumb things - and sometimes they get caught and have to pay the price. Nobody forced him to get involved with the RA - and hopefully she was punished as well - but when you play with fire, you have no reason to complain when you sometimes get burned.

I don't think Dez ever did complain, at least not publicly. I would assume he was shocked that he got kicked out. But he manned up and left and moved on with his life.
You can say no one forced him to get involved with the RA, I agree. But you could also say the RA shouldn't have been drinking in the dorms, or giving alcohol to underage students no less. But it happens. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when they're young. More than just Dez made mistakes in this situation.

I don't think I suggested that the RA wasn't at least as culpable as Dez. Indeed, I stated that I hoped she was punished too. Both "kids" were dumb - but she clearly was in a position of authority (not much, mind you), older, and one would certainly hope, just a tad wiser. To me, this was just a sad story of young people making really dumb decisions that ended up, unintentionally, impacting a lot of people in a negative way.

Dez never did complain. He is a wonderful young man and Xavier would be lucky to have him. Maryland is ecstatic to have a great basketball player and an even better man.

Weren't they both just trying to get laid after drinking? Since when is that particularly egregious behavior between consenting (at least initially) college kids? Who on this board didn't do that while at X????

Don't forget, X use to be an all male school--and did you ever see the girls at OLC (our last chance!) LOL!

It never ceases to amaze me that those men who allude to the physical appearance of a woman have often failed to view themselves in a mirror.
