Easy way to avoid posters who irritate you

On the upper right hand of this page, go to "User Control Panel", and click on that.

You'll see "Options" on left hand side of the page that comes up, and going down that list, you'll see "Friends and Foes".

Once you click on F&F, then click on "Manage foes", which will allow you to add the screen names of posters whose posts you don't want to see. Then hit "submit".

I've got 3 names on there now, and it makes life a lot easier, believe me.

that takes the fun out of it. It's a chatboard for a bunch of ridiculously passionate fans of their alma mater, I love how pissed off people get about opinions that differ from their own. Obvioulsy I'm often a victim of the ire of the admins, but I'll take this over Xavier hoops anyday.

Gary, what if they are trolling. It's usually after a Xavier loss and they just come here to piss people off. How cab you curb those hacks?

woods, I'm all about passionate discussions, but if and when it reaches the point that one guy just can't stand another, then the easiest thing to do is just take the other poster out of the equation, at least until things die down.

Mosquetero, that's a tougher call. I'm generally in favor of letting the trolls play themselves out, because usually they move on, but I know the other admins have banned them, at least temporarily, on several occasion. The tough part for me is that you can't tell with any certainty whether someone's trolling or just vigorously holds an unpopular opinion.

Neutral, I’ve been an avid follower/reader of this site for several years. Although I have been inclined to respond to certain posts in the past, I’ve chosen to remain a reader – until today. I just created an account (right before I saw this post) with the intent of emphatically agreeing with olsingledigit on the Dez Wells post.
Olsingledigit wrote:
“I am so sick of Homer that I am considering taking a hiatus from this board (you can look that word up, Homer if you don't know what it means). This used to be a reasonable board to read and post on but Homer and a few others have spread their venom to a point where it dominates the board and effectively renders it a useless place to discuss reasonably Xavier basketball.”
It’s unfortunate this site has become polluted with negativity, mostly from a few loud posters. I visit this site because I’m a Xavier basketball fan and enjoy looking for insight -- such as recruiting news, RPI updates, finding references to Xavier in the national/local media, and other comments or observations on Xavier basketball. I realize the last 2 are subjective and that’s where the negativity tends to come in. I can deal with that and expect it at times -- to a degree. My intent of visiting this site is for enjoyment, but increasingly over the last couple of months I leave this site with a bad taste. Positive or neutral posts often end up negative and I spend more time sorting out the inter-fighting comments between posters.

I’ll definitely block a few accounts. I didn’t know this feature existed. I was ready to suggest (with a bit a sarcasm) that we create a “negative” message board and let those that feel inclined to bellyache and moan repeatedly about the current coach, the A10, player X, or Player Y, etc…, and spare those of us who are so tired of reading the same negative comments from the same negative posters.

I remain hopeful X can turn things around, get hot, and start peaking at the right time.

Go X!

I take a look at the XavierHoops board periodically, though I'm still banned from there, and the unrest is popping up there, too. It's the same all over, guys.

I don't want any poster to leave the board, so do what I did, and just put certain posters on your "ignore" list and enjoy the rest. Kind of like pushing aside the vegetables to enjoy the steak.

normally, if there are troll we can find out and then try to get rid of them but sometimes we(mods) are not always on-line. As for others a little tolerance is made unless they start to beat a dead horse. We get it some, people have one agenda. IF they only want to tick people off then they will get a chance to reassess.

While I was in Memphis one of the former posters, actually a couple commented that they are frustrated by all the carping on the players and coach. One showed me a post of someone that obviously had gut wrenching post about a player telling them to leave followed by an e-mail from the parent of this player and his aunt telling her how upset they were about poster who really don’t know what is happening taking unwarranted shots in annominity. Everyone is upset that this season doesn’t seem to be panning out but let us all take a minute after each disappointment to temper our comments because their are people that are hurt by visceral anger. If not then the mods have to act.

As a guy who's spent WAY too much time firing back at posters who were trying (successfully) to get under my skin, I strongly suggest going the "ignore" route and just enjoy the rest of the posts. If and when things die down, you can always remove the screen name from your foes list.

MM -this goes for mods and others ripping on people for having differing opinions. I have seen mods call people dumb, drunk, make fun of former coaches then say they didn't mean it that way. Its a two way street here-I believe. I'm not mentioning any names so no one has to be offended, just food for thought.
