Apparently, there was another newspaper article taking issue with the canonization of Tyler Hansbrough, and Dan's discussing at length the media's tendency to describe white players as "hard working" while they describe black players as "talented".

Dan must be a racist for discussing this issue. (Or possibly just recognizing the obvious.)

Danny Pugh, aka Dan Patrick, of Mason Ohio and ESPN, is not in the least a bigot nor a racist. Take it from someone who knows him, his brother Mike and their family.

pick, I was saying that tongue in cheek. Many times on this board, guys have gone into a self-righteous frenzy when the issue of race comes up, or obvious points about how race and racial differences are handled are brought up.

I found it refreshing that Dan, along with both white and black commentators, was discussing these issues openly, honestly, and directly, and not pretending they don't exist.

Often it's difficult to discern what's tongue-in-cheek and what's not. Maybe we can use a universal 'T.I.C.' suffix after our commentary.

I figured my last sentence ("Or possibly just recognizing the obvious.") would be the give-away, but I know tone often gets lost in Net posts.

The author of the Tyler Hansbrough article could have completely diffused this if he had simply added that Hansbrough was well spoken.

Dan's discussing it again today, as well as some of the responses he got to yesterday's discussion.

I've often been referred to as having game similar to Earl "The Pearl" Monroe or George Gervin.

That's golf game, not basketball game. My basketball game was modeled after Rick Mount and Pistol Pete Maravich-but without the talent.

Despite your obvious lack of talent, I've always considered you hard working and well spoken, Gary.

I would consider Hansbourgh hard working and talented. It is funny how sometimes they say one or the other. MJ was a very hard working player, but was also one of the most talented. Hansbourgh is probably considered hard working instead of talented because he shoots so many free-throws, and isn't making the flashy plays.
