Re: Butler game thread 1/13/19
Biggest question I have is why Hardin misses 2 threes and doesn’t see the floor again til the final minute or two, yet Welage goes 0-7 from three and plays most the game even though his D isn’t as good as Hardin’s. Or at least maybe Steele thinks so since he plays Hardin on D late and Welage on Offense.

Mack is absolutely to blame for the fact that X only had one senior on this team. I don't necessarily blame him for Gates leaving as I don't know the story but only having one senior is a huge miss when you are recruiting for a team that was on a significant upswing. Take that and his lack of recruiting with these Freshmen and he really hurt the program. He certainly left at the right time.

i'm not sure what else you can do - you're NOT going to have a class that has 4 or 5 guys, and have ALL of them stay all 4 years. we knew that with Sumner coming in and his injuries really hampered him at X. Would love to have Gates this year - no idea why the fault lies with Mack on him leaving but whatever. his choice.
London and Austin both left for "greener pastures" (i.e., more PT) that's the problem you have at times - you can't please all these guys who think they can come in as freshmen and should be playing 20-25 minutes a game ahead of guys who have been there 2-3 years, worked their butts off to get better, and right now, are better than YOU. some players don't have the patience of a Sean O'Mara, who could've easily left.
i don't know what the solution is. this year's frosh aren't that great but maybe they can be. i don't know. ask me again in 3 years and let's see where they're at.

Skip good call. I did not realize that London and Austin were in same class as Gates.longliveskip wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:52 ami'm not sure what else you can do - you're NOT going to have a class that has 4 or 5 guys, and have ALL of them stay all 4 years. we knew that with Sumner coming in and his injuries really hampered him at X. Re: Butler game thread 1/13/19
May have been said already as I have not ready every entry on this thread - But props to Castlin for having the stones to take that late open "3" to tie the game with about 50 seconds left. He had missed every outside shot up to that point yet without hesitation he let it fly. That was the right play at that time. He was wide-stink'in-open as a friend of mine loves to say! Swish...
. Earlier in the game Kyle had some awesome pump fake-n-drives that got him to the line. That kid, although many will knock him, plays solid D and if you watch, really rebounds well from the guard position. He is what he is, but always seems to have a positive mindset and is about as unselfish as they get. Good for him to be playing on this high stage to end his career. I also agree that Steele needs to sub in Kennedy and Hardin more and more. That said, nice game yesterday Kyle Castlin..! Glad you elected to share your final season with us....

Re: Butler game thread 1/13/19
The big class with Austin, Sumner, Tre, etc. was the class before Gates, so that is why Gates was the only recruit in the class based on the high number for the last class. Austin is in his fifth year as would London would have been since he stayed. Gates couldn't stand Mack and vice versa, which is why is left which was obviously a dumb decision. Caislin was a difference maker yesterday, but is he really 6'4"? It seems as though he plays way below the rim. Steele needs to figure out a way to get points out of the bench maybe 6 to 8 from Kennedy and Hardin. Anyone know why James sees no time? We have our worst bench in 20 years and you would think a strong recruit would see time.
