One more thing for the CM fan club--if you think X cannot get a quality, young, "up and coming" coach with this league, facility and program, you're crazy. Not saying Mack does not deserve time to pull out of the tailspin he has placed this program in, but another season like this and he rightfully belongs on the hot seat.

Here's hoping next year's incoming class is 25% as good as people on this board claim it is.....
You are worse than delusional. You want another Matta or Miller, both who were just looking for money and could have cared less about Xavier? Get over it and move on. Mack is here to stay.
Both Matta and Miller left the program in better shape vs when they started (especially Matta). You want to stay with a mediocre coach who can quote lines from funny 80's movies, go for it.

PCP, while I agree that we are in the United Socialist Republic of Xavier, and short of "shooting the Mayor on Main Street" no one gets fired. That said, X's basketball program is the university's #1 money maker and pressure will be brought to bear if Mack produces another season like this one.

And if you think there is not a young, creative coach from the MAC, A-10,etc,that would love a shot to coach X, then you have not followed Xavier basketball for the past thirty years. Let's all remember that Mack did not build this program with his two hands.

Archie wants Ohio State, not NC State, by the way.

Xavier is a job that a lot of coaches would love-great league, very good facilities,a great track record.Yes some will use it as a stepping stone to a higher paying job but if they leave it's because they were successful. But let's be reasonable(ok that's asking a lot for some people
),there is absolutely no reason to get rid of Mack. This season has turned into a nightmare. There have been issues beyond his control .Not saying that the coach doesn't deserve some blame. There's no reason to think the program is headed down.We have a highly rated class coming in next year.Let's not overreact to one year. I would assume that X will extend his contract again this year.If there are a few bad years in a row, then maybe you look at a coaching change.

You are making my point for me. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Can you identify a single up and comer from either of those conferences?

Rising stars, like Archie, want jobs like OSU and IU, not Xavier.

Do you think Xavier is a top 3 job in the Big East?

Xavier has ridiculous pressure from the fans. Most jobs where it's like that (IU, UK, etc.) there are factors to offset that, but not at X. People expect the Coach to take XU places they have never been or they're seen as a failure.

you just mentioned IU.

why don't you go look at what Crean has done since he got there and compare that to what Mack has done since he's been at X.

I went to IU and root for them as well. I am familiar with Crean's resume. Not sure what your point is?

Crean's tenure has had more extreme spikes in either direction, but his overall time has been roughly equivalent to Mack's at least NCAA Tournament wise.

He is about to be fired for many reasons that go beyond capping out at the Sweet 16.

The idea that Mack would get a shorter leash at XU while undergoing a conference upgrade than Crean at a powerhouse like IU is comical to me.

I think it's kind of a pointless argument as there is much more possibility that Mack could go elsewhere as he would be let go. That said, i don't think he has a quick fix for what ails the program right now, and he may need to change/change his focus to retain players. Although some things are out of his control, he's also got to take responsibility for some of the personnel short comings they have right now. You are always subject to lose guys to injury and this will not change. However, i think there needs to be more focus on overall player development and less on the quick fixes and higher risk guys who can contribute right away. It means sacrifice in the short run, but it will get things back on firm footing. I'll reserve judgement until i see what happens in the off season. I"ve learned that regardless of playing time, it seems every year someone goes missing i didn't expect. Thus, it's hard to say how big of a hole he's in right now. One thing is for certain, if Mack were to go this year, and the recruiting class splinters, it would not be good.

He might leave but no way he is even close to being fired.Things would have to be far worse than one bad season for that to happen

You are making my point for me. You have no idea what you are talking about. Really?

Can you identify a single up and comer from either of those conferences?
Since you asked; Will Wade, VCU, Dave Richman, NDSU, Matt McCall, Chattanooga

Rising stars, like Archie, want jobs like OSU and IU, not Xavier.
Not looking for Miller 2.0 Riding his Elite Eight appearance, which is getting stale. Point was he has a specific place in mind

Do you think Xavier is a top 3 job in the Big East?
There is not a "Top 3" in the Big East. Are St Johns, Georgetown, or Villanova that "great"? Jay Wright has made Villanova, the Thompsons have owned Georgetown and St John has been irrelevant. Marquette? DePaul? My point is all are good programs, but none is head and shoulders over the rest.

Xavier has ridiculous pressure from the fans. Most jobs where it's like that (IU, UK, etc.) there are factors to offset that, but not at X. People expect the Coach to take XU places they have never been or they're seen as a failure.
"Ridiculous pressure"?? Are you kidding me? Periodic ramblings from fans who follow the team and question its direction from time to time? Back to your safe space friend. Fan support for the coach and the team are solid--saw it again last night. Perhaps you do not make it to the Cintas Center very often. As for taking XU places it has never been--ever hear of Butler and George Mason? I know you are new to this board, but X came within a game of the Final Four, twice, during a four year period. Both times by the previous two coaches. Nothing wrong with "challenging the program." You think your Big 10 fan bases don't do it?

You're better than that, Tragedy.

You think Will Wade would leave VCU for Xavier? Come on.

ANYONE in the industry would tell you there is a hierarchy to jobs (not programs) in the Big East and any conference. Nova, Georgetown, and Marquette are unquestionably better jobs due to a combination of things like facilities, recruiting base, prestige, campus location, money, commitment of the administration, fan pressure etc. There's probably a solid argument for SJU as well.

You can't see the distinction between how good a program is and how appealing the job is to future coaches. There is a reason a job like Maryland or Texas is way more appealing than Michigan State, despite how good they are consistently under Izzo. If you don't want to see that or don't get it, it is pointless to debate this with you.

Try to wrap your mind around the fact that there is more that goes into what is a better job than pure on court success, and Xavier is lacking (relatively, to other top 25 programs based on on court success) in many of those areas.

As for your candidates, I guess X could probably get North Dakota St's coach who has made the tournament once with Saul Phillips' players. They looked great at Cintas this season. Huge upgrade.

You aren't looking for Archie riding his Elite 8 at Dayton but you want Richman's 15 seed appearance and McCall's getting BLASTED 99-74 in a 12-5 game with all of Will Wade's players? By the way, McCall is on a losing streak of his own to the likes of ETSU, Samford, Mercer, and The Citadel. I don't get it.
