Re: Goodin
No recruit/player who leaves HS on scholarship to a D1 program, and is thrown into a starting role that NO ONE foresaw coming, is gonna operate as did the starter! C'mon, XUCapt...what level did you excel at? Leave out the CYO comparison. Man, are you serious?

Re: Goodin
first airball wasn't his fault-shame that any team would have a shot clock violation in first possession. turnover and foul-dumbhoosiermuskie wrote:2 air balls and a t o so far:(

Re: Goodin
Q is going to be a very good player for us and I think we will see a huge jump next year. Guy has incredible talent and athleticism and those are 2 things you can't teach. Shooting and finishing around the rim will come with a lot of practice and help from the coaching staff.
The guy Q reminds me the most of is Mark Lyons. Lyons was one of the worst shooters I had ever seen his freshman year and all of his high school highlights were of him dunking (similar to Q). By the time he left us, he was pretty darn good from outside.

Re: Goodin
We won 3 games in a row right after Ed got hurt. Q played well in those games. This current losing streak is a combination of things, Bluiet being hurt, lack of an offense, too many turnovers, forced shots and passes. Most of these issues arent' because of this freshman point guard. He's going to be really good. Now if we could just start showing some stones on defense and hope Blueitt gets hot from outside -this season will be salvaged in a big way.

Re: Goodin
Goodin was just terrible today. His inability to score, plus the turnovers, is killing Xavier.

Re: Goodin
Larry Sykes nailed it re: Q. Give the kid some room...it is tiring to hear the same BS on this board after a loss...no one likes the funk we are in! Being a team sport, Q isn't solely responsible for the outcome. Those who know bball will gravitate to Larry Sykes' assessment of Q.

Re: Goodin
Silver lining on Goodin--at least X will know they have some work do at point going into next year (as opposed to finding out during the 17-18 season). Especially true if Sumner is not back.
Goodin is no where as good as some people were making him out to be.

Goodin is also no where near as bad as some people here say.

Re: Goodin
I disagree with this post. For comparison check out Markus Howard's stats for Marquette. He's a freshman shooting .554 from 3. Also 44-48 from the line. Both players graded out about the same from the national recruiting services. As a matter of fact Goodin was offered by Marquette. Both players were offered by some very big schools. Obviously shooting is not a daunting task for Howard. He killed Xavier first time around. As far as free throw shooting goes, Goodin's form is bad, there is no flow from his big muscles to small and no rhythmic motion. Gaston is the same way. I say it once a week. Who is teaching these kids? I'm afraid Goodin's not being taught and developed the way Howard is. When my kids went to Skip Prosser's basketball camp, every morning the day would start by the kids all knocking on the floor. Skip would walk in the gym and yell "What's that knockin'?" Kids would respond "Opportunity!" Skip: "What do you do when opportunity knocks?" Kids: "Open the door and let it in". That's where Goodin is right now. Forget the 18 year old stuff.Alpalpa wrote:For God's sake...give the kid a break. He thought he would be second or third for the call. SURPRISE! He's a freshman with talents that have shown themselves in games...But to be a starting point guard in arguably one of the best leagues in the NCAA this past or two, gettig your shot so soon is a daunting task for an 18 year old. Give him time and let him adjust. He'll make you smile.
BTW, anyone else notice that Xavier had a foul to give at the end of the half? Foul, make them take it out of bounds into the backcourt, pressure a little and maybe they don't get a wide open look at the buzzer. Just sayin.
