I think they already fired an assistant coach for his role in this.I can't see Sampson surviving this but at least he got to be interviewed by Erin Andrews in his last 2 games! When are we going to get her at the Cintas Center?realxfan wrote:Does Sampson have a scapegoat ala John Loyer like Huggins did when UC got slapped with lack of institutional control?

At Xavier we have a 10,000 seat arena that you can generally still get tickets to the week of the game.tacitus wrote:at least you don't have to worry about someone stealing whatshisname up I75. you guys would need a 20 win season before he could even make a lateral move to a solid team like Gardner Web. Well... that would actually be a clear step up. They've at least won in the post season recently.
And it seems that X does fine in recruiting. For instance, we get all the best players from Dayton. But I guess that is easy when we are the closest D-1 school to that dying town. Miller also makes a pretty dime and will get a significant raise after this year. X has also gotten a LOT of exposure this year (and over the last decade) for being a team that burst the mid major mold... is IU elite historically? Yes! Is the Big 10 usually a solid league? Yes! Is IU or the Big 10 necessarily all that much better than X and the A10 this year? Nope... Got to go with the times. X has been on a steady rise since the early 90s or so, whereas other teams aren't. There's a team up I75 that has been on a steady free fall since the 50s or 60s... I can't quite remember the name... we used to play them though. They just stopped showing up.
Truth be told, you guys would love to see Miller leave, only because it will have been your only chance to rub something in our faces in a long time, seeing as how we swept you last year and will do the same this year.
At IU they have a 17,000 seat arena that you generally can't get tickets to without donating thousands of dollars to the athletic department.
As I said before, I certainly would love for Miller to stay here, but I wouldn't be shocked if he left (nor could I blame him). While we have a tremendous basketball program, it is not near the level of IU. That doesn't mean that he would definitely leave if IU offered him, but to rule out the possibility is ignoring the realities of the situation. Xavier is still a "destination job;" however, people leave destination jobs for the elite programs.

Re: Miller/ IU speculators...
Xavier cannot even compete with what Indiana has as far as both an athletic and basketball program. There is no way that X can give Miller IU money, or IU's budget, or IU's fan base, or IU's history and IU's facilities. So looking at all things superficially, IU would definately be a better job than X. As far as any restrictions are concerned with IU, coaching jobs like that don't open up very much, and even a one or two year ban shouldn't be enough to scare away any potential coaches.
As far as Bobo taking the IU AD job, I do not think that he would ever be offered that, but like with the Miller scenario IU has way more to offer than X can. With the lone exception of the men's basketball program the remainder of the X sports are middle of the pack or bottom feeder A10 teams, and overall the athletic facilities are nothing compared to what IU has to offer. Hell, with the lone exception of the Basketball Arena, St. X High School can offer better facilities than both XU can (I mean that as far as the football stadium vs x's soccer field and St. X's weight and training rooms vs XU's weight and training rooms, St. X also has that state of the art pool vs. XU's rec center pool, and St. X even has a track complex, which is something that XU does not).
P.S. I didn't want this part of the post to be bashing on XU's other programs or athletic facilities, or to be all high and mighty about St. X (GO ELDER!) but just a frame of reference comparing the IU AD job vs XU AD job.

Yeah, if what they are saying about what could happen to IU it sure will look like a good program to walk into. drip drip dripBiff Tannen wrote:Xavier cannot even compete with what Indiana has as far as both an athletic and basketball program. I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
