this statement is pretty laughable. he rarely showed the ability to get to the rim, horrible decision making when handling the ball on the fast break, and questionable shot selection, for the most part. i'm sorry, that is NOT the best offensive player on the team no matter how many KyKy youtube hype video highlights you've watched.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:49 pmIs it poor player management or poor evaluation of players? I think it's equal parts of each. Also, the great majority of AAU players are nightmares. From what I understand, Kyky's was historically incorrigible, but his son was also the best offensive player on a team who suffered mightily offensively, when Johnson went down.bluegrass wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 1:37 pmSo much hype coming in and he showed a lot of promise last year. love to see/hear evidence on this one. c'mon, man.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:54 pmMarshall and Q had very little respect for Steele. Hard to understand where/how/why he made the distinction. I've never seen a coach mismanage a good team more than Steele. Tandy and Griffin and such glaring examples. I suspect Zion W would have played about 13 minutes a game in lieu of Carter and Free.skyhops wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 1:15 pmYou don’t want players to have egos? You ever watch Tu Holloway play and how Mack let him run the locker room? I’d Tandy over lower level guys like Kunkel and Carter any day, but then again many in this board never played the game similar to Steele. Ego, wow I’ve heard it all now

Re: Tandy transfer portal
Have to agree 100% with "Skip on this one. Y'all heard me several times this year note the fact that KyKy has a very weak handle for a guard. Twice, (and that is a lot due to such a small amount of PT), he simply lost control of his dribble on fast break opportunities. It was also notable on his attempts to drive into the lane while decently guarded. My hunch is that it served him well in HS but we ain't in Kansas anymore now. Possibly, (and yes I am surmising here), the staff urged him to work on this and he did not get the message. He is too small in stature to be a dominant "2" at BE level. With his ball handling and decision making shortcomings, he is not an ideal PG. So what is he? A streaky scorer, sure. That can come in handy. But we also was at times, a "shot hunter" that you knew when he caught a pass, that he was going to wind up shooting it - no matter the quality of that particular shot. Is he a decent player? Absolutely. But to date, from what I have seen, he certainly was not as advertised. Not a crime and happens all the time. All I am saying is, as much as I criticize Steele for a multitude of other aspects, I can see why Tandy would drive a coach nuts in big games. The caveat here of course is that he did get a very limited opportunity so all of us are forced to draw our conclusions bases on that sample size. Meaning any opinion could be dead wrong. We shall see where he lands and I wish him nothing but the best.

Tandy is not undersized for the BE. He is probably the most athletic on the team and one of the best shooters. Kunkel and Carter are not BE players.

Didn't now Kyky could have been a sub for Carter...was it his rugged body or his rebounding prowess?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Not sure what you are talking about. Steele will recruit putting the screws to Tandy. Big mistake going with Kunkel over Tandy and having Carter play such a big roll.

I view this as a larger problem as well - - too much reliance upon transfers and fifth years. They have to be promised something to come and that something is playing time. The time comes from the younger recruits at the given position on the theory that they have future seasons to play big minutes. Its a big risk. And when you don't succeed, there are big consequences.

Well, but I ask why did you try to beat Butler by putting only four players on the floor plus (he who shall not be named)? Did you not notice that Butler was using five players? I blame your staff for not informing you.
Just when I think you can't put out a more insightful post, you out do yourself again. I'm in awe, sir.

Re: Tandy transfer portal
Horrible decision-making? Really? Relative to Marshall, Freemantle, Scruggs on occasion, JP early in his career, etc. He showed the increasing ability to get to the hoop and was a game-changer on offense. He could score at all three levels, and no way Butler packs the lane so X can score 10 points in 14 minutes and blow the game to Butler...No not VA, but Butler....No, not Baylor, but Butler.....No, not Drake, but Butler. Easily, the best overall offensive talent on the team. How many bad shots did Bliuett take? Exactly. No one remembers b/c he made up for it, as Tandy did, or would have, if his last name wasn't Tandy. However, scoring two threes in 3 minutes requires him to be pulled lest the fans know the worst held secret. Steele has no clue how to manage his personnel. See Goodin, Q, and Carter, J.longliveskip wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 8:55 amthis statement is pretty laughable. he rarely showed the ability to get to the rim, horrible decision making when handling the ball on the fast break, and questionable shot selection, for the most part. i'm sorry, that is NOT the best offensive player on the team no matter how many KyKy youtube hype video highlights you've watched.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:49 pmIs it poor player management or poor evaluation of players? Re: Tandy transfer portal
Q called a lot of schools before his junior year, a la Lyons, including Lousiville, because he knew what we didn't back then. After several games, Marshall put on Twitter, how much he missed Mack, prompting a one-game suspension. Is that ample evidence?longliveskip wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 8:56 amlove to see/hear evidence on this one. c'mon, man.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:54 pmMarshall and Q had very little respect for Steele.
