things i heard today:
1. Mack's deal with Louisville is $4 mil per year and Steele goes with at top asst.
2. from a source that's high up at X, when i asked what % chance that Mack is gone - his response was 98%
just throwing those out there right now.
who knows.

Re: Mack meets with Louisville
I thought Steele was rumored to be in line with several head coaching jobs.I'd think he would take one of those rather than stay as an assistant-particularly if Xavier is one of those jobs. I'm expecting Mack to leave but hoping he doesn't obviouslylongliveskip wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 9:59 amthings i heard today:

I think when CM leaves, Steele would stay at X if he is offered the HC job. I think if the job Steele was in line for was VCU, Houston, or another high quality mid-major, he wouldn’t have pulled out of consideration.bluegrass wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:00 pmI thought Steele was rumored to be in line with several head coaching jobs.I'd think he would take one of those rather than stay as an assistant-particularly if Xavier is one of those jobs. Evansville is a graveyard for cbb coaches. He’ll make more money as the top asst,’ and still be a hot coaching commodity at L— Ville.
Hell, I won cyp conference titles for the son’s 7th grade and daughter’s 3rd grade team in the same year a few years back, so I would probably be granted an I-view at Evansville if I applied. Being handsome wouldn’t hurt me either.

Re: Mack meets with Louisville
in my mind Mack is gone. I really hope that Steele is going to get the opportunity at X. I have heard that Matta and Kelsey are also on the short list for X. Really hope thats not the case

Maybe this is common knowledge regarding Matta, I don't know, but Ron Hunter, coach at Georgia State, formerly coach at IUPUI, is a friend of Matta's. I heard Hunter being interviewed on an Atlanta radio sports talk show about 2 years ago. They were asking coach Hunter why he never went for more high profile jobs. His response was that too many coaches go for the money and end up being out of coaching within a few years when things go wrong at their new schools. He wants to be in coaching for life so he is happy coaching in the "mid majors". He then said Matta told him that except for the money, he regretted leaving Xavier. This makes me wonder if Matta would go after the XU job if Mack leaves.
I have nothing against Matta, I thought he was a good coach when he was at X, but I hope XU doesn't go in that direction.
On another note, yesterday, I heard on ESPN radio, Tim Legler (ESPN NBA analyst) being interviewed. He wants to get into college coaching. He said he currently coaches AAU teams and he runs camps but I'm not aware that he has any college or pro coaching experience. He mentioned that he has many recruiting contacts thru his AAU coaching experience. I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts would be if Legler were interested in the XU job?
Hopefully Mack stays and none of this matters.

Re: Mack meets with Louisville
My feelings are ambivalent. If Mack decides to leave X then I will be glad he left. He then is more interested in $ than X, Cincinnati, etc. If he decides to stay it means he feels the reverse. So I won’t be disappointed either way.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Mack meets with Louisville
That's not necessarily the case if his wife has a lot of family in Louisville. Coaches spend a heck of a lot of time away from home. She may have a large say in where they live as well.
