That certainly stands to reason, but does anyone happen to know the % of Nat. Champs who have also won their Conference Tourney? Or reaching the Final Four for that matter?

No team, in any conference, wants to allow the Tournament Championship Trophy to sit in another teams trophy case. In all the conference tourney games I've watched there is fierce competition, war, going on. Everybody wants to win it.

Getting to the Dance is important ,the conference tournament means nothing unless a team has to win it to get to the Dance. Huh...Temple and Xavier lost a total of 3 games within the conference all season and dominated the A10. But both teams were guaranteed a Dance seed and thus both lost within 2 days of each other...X in their first tournament game and Temple in their second game to weaker teams. Thus giving the A10 a guaranteed 3rd A10 team and another $200,000 plus ,but more important they get to go home and rest up for the Dance....no injuries, no wasted energy, no wasted time at the tourney, etc Xavier would have been a 5 to 7 seed in the Dance regardless of what they would have done in the conference tournament. Their seeds were set in stone based on season play. (Wisconsin scored 33 points to lose to Penn State 's 36 points...in order to go home. Wisconsin's seed in the Dance was guaranteed )
