Re: questions
we tend to be critical when our guys fail on any given defensive set, goal is perfection. when our guy beats the opponent defender, it's poor defense, same goal applies. defense is a mentality and the commitment to and focus sometimes slows a guy's offense down as in stanley's case this year. players are sometimes defensive or offensive liabilities. if they're exceptional at both ends, then you've got something, multiply by 5 add 7= undefeated.

Re: questions
<CJ scores inside because of his savvy and strength, not because he's blowing by anyone.>
.... you need to watch tapes .. you will see that he is a "slasher." .. always has been... and driving to the basket, spliting defenders, or coming off a pick is his forte ... and that requires "foot speed." .. CJ is more like Posey than anyone else that comes to mind.
<CJ is anything resembling a lock-down defender at this point in his career.>
Outside of Stanley ... FYI .. we don't have a "lock-down defender." .. or do you know of one?

Re: questions
xuhuh,
Keep in mind that Stan's PPG is only 1.5 points behind Xavier's leading scorer. Personally I think there has been way too much emphasis on Stan's low scoring output this year. His 3 pt % and FT % are better than they've ever been. He's only down 2.2 ppg from last year but he's causing players from other teams to score way less than the 2.2 of his scoring output.
Overall I'm sure we're on the same page.

Re: questions
How about giving Derrick credit for the steal which he converted into a basket and the blocked shot near the end of the game. He also played tough under the boards even though it may not show up on the stat sheet.

Re: questions
I'm not really concerned about his defense, the thing I worry about with CJ is his ball handling. It always seems like after two dribbles he ends up turning it over. I don't question his heart or his toughness at all. Hopefully he can improve his ball handling because next year we may need him to handle it around the perimeter with inexperienced guards.

Then you need to think some more. CJ and Posey are very different in terms of body types and athletic skills. JP could run faster, jump higher, and was much "longer" than Anderson. CJ's a nice player, but scoring inside does not a "slasher" make.
If that was the case, then TJ Johnson and Torraye Braggs were "slashers", which is, of course, silly.

Re: questions
I think our men can compete with any team in the country at this point. We can pick apart each players performance but in the end, they area damn good team, and thats what matters.

Never said that CJ could run faster, jump higher, and was much longer than
Posey. I said he was "more like Posey" in that he was a guy (like Posey) who could come off a pick or take a pass outside and drive to the basket .. scoring .. and in most instances drawing a foul to boot!
He scores "inside" but he drives (slashes) from outside to get there. He's not playing down deep (around the goal) like you say, as did TJ, Braggs, David (his firth three years), or any other post player. And, his "foot speed" is plenty good enough to beat his man to the basket.
If you want, send me your address and I'll make and send you an edited tape as proof.

Re: questions
Don't forgwet his assists and then there is his Defense. Someone once said players don't improve under Sean but I guess we can lay that comment to bed.MADXSTER wrote:xuhuh,

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: questions
hey mad, there are plenty of guys with heart on the offensive end of the floor. Cj has been here two years. My ignorant statement is an attempt to compare intensity from one end of the court to the other. cj came here as a scorer. he has shown the ability to put the ball in the hole. he has not shown the ability and/or desire to be a regular contributor on the defensive end of the floor.his lapses get him the quick hook more than any other player on the team. After two years in this program one would hope that he would have bought it to the defense philosophy espoused by this coaching staff. My question was and is, will he change quickly enough to assist this team make a deep run?
