Do these players have to sit out a year still?

That will be an interesting question. History would say most of them will not particularly given the covid situation, but the reality is the Ncaa has a problem right now. Only 5 guys can start and likely play 30 minutes a game. This generation is a bit different in my mind. However, some are just not good enough to play a lot of minutes in their earlier years. They may be better off at a lower level. Time will tell. The success rates of transfers relative to their original situation is mixed at best. In Tandy's case, i think he had a beef with playing time. Ramsey hard to tell as he was hurt quite a bit. However, given the front court situation, i think everyone was surprised he didn't play more if he was healthy.

He did not like Tandy and his dad. In a few years when he is coaching an NAIA team he can think about starting Carter and Kunkel.
We had another player whose father wrecked his son's career not only made X miss out on a player that almost came to X until the father went crazy.
The other player turned out to be superior and ran rings around X's player.

I am always sad when X loses a player and Kyky is no exception. I wish him well but one thing Kyky...you are not the only player on the floor and your game is not a finished project yet, I hope your ego doesn't get in the way of your talent
Well said MM

Coach has to own that as everybody and their brother was aware of the father issue long before Steele got involved with him. In retrospect, he gambled and lost. However, i do think he should have played more and i know i'm not in the minority. Father or no father.

You don’t want players to have egos? You ever watch Tu Holloway play and how Mack let him run the locker room? I’d Tandy over lower level guys like Kunkel and Carter any day, but then again many in this board never played the game similar to Steele. Ego, wow I’ve heard it all now

Ramsey enters as well.

no idea on where either will land although i had heard Vandy for KyKy.

not sure Ramsey, even though he says he's fully healthy, will last anywhere for long in any type of big time bball with those knees. wish both the best, though.

oh, and everyone remember - these transfers are all Steele's fault. (there are over 400 in the TP, btw, and most of them are all Steele's fault.)

Again your reading comprehension has failed you sky... come back after someone has read and explained what I said, and you claimed to have graduated from Xavier.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

From the Enquirer beat, Steele's quote somewhat interesting re: "anybody leaving":

Every offseason comes with changes and one of those changes was announced Monday when Xavier sophomore KyKy Tandy entered the transfer portal, the school confirmed to The Enquirer.

There were questions all season long about Tandy, a 6-foot-2 guard who was an All-Big East freshman team selection last year but saw his playing time largely disappear over the course of this season.

Tandy played in 25 games as a freshman, averaging 18.4 minutes and 6.7 points per game. As a sophomore, Tandy played in 18 of Xavier's 21 games and averaged 14.7 minutes and 6.6 points.

"Everybody wants to play and it's hard to play everybody," Xavier head coach Travis Steele told The Enquirer Sunday night when asked about possible transfers. "It's impossible. Listen, I love all of our guys and I'm very appreciative of all they've done and all they've sacrificed just to make this season a possibility. But everyone wants to play and there's only so many minutes and there's only one basketball. We wish anybody that does decide to leave the best of luck moving forward."
Game line vs Butler. Jason Carter. 35 minutes. Enough said.

KyKy was a head scratcher that's for sure... Dan
So much hype coming in and he showed a lot of promise last year. We may never know what the issue here was.I heard the dad was difficult but you had to have known that coming in. Steele has had a lot of misses. Granted a lot of the guys who have transferred haven't done a whole lot since they left.
Is it poor player management or poor evaluation of players? I think it's equal parts of each. Also, the great majority of AAU players are nightmares. From what I understand, Kyky's was historically incorrigible, but his son was also the best offensive player on a team who suffered mightily offensively, when Johnson went down.

Marshall and Q had very little respect for Steele. Hard to understand where/how/why he made the distinction. I've never seen a coach mismanage a good team more than Steele. Tandy and Griffin and such glaring examples. I suspect Zion W would have played about 13 minutes a game in lieu of Carter and Free.
