Kyrex would love to have Kunkel but always heard that was a long shot. My only issue with Stanley was that coaching staff knew interior was going to be an issue so unless they had on good authority (and i honestly don't know) that this was anything but a 50/50 shot i would put that on the coaching staff. Coaching staff did a GREAT job getting some shooters which i believe is now their strength but the interior is an issue without a Stanley type player. X was so close to getting Ben Carlson and took a shot at Dawson Garcia to help in the front line but Wisconsin and Marquette won out. Perhaps this will force Deointe Miles and Bryan Griffin to get better real fast or this will be a concern all year.kyzrex wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 8:16 amStanley not getting a waiver is a complete shock and only points out just how inept the NCAA is. Kunkel’s fate hasn’t been decided yet, although I don’t expect him to get a waiver, when dealing with the NCAA nothing surprises me anymore. I think that the medical people really thought that Ramsey would be a go this year. He was working out and practicing all off-season. Every indication was that he would be good to go this year.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 9:17 pmThe issue of Covid compounds the issue even more. This is on Steele's risky management of roster construction. There was never any guarantee that either Stanley or Kunkel would be eligible. Also, Ramsey has played about three minutes since Steele said he should be back to normal around conference season when asked about Ramsey after the T-Giving tourney last year. I like and support going after both players, but not if I knew Ramsey would be a minimal contributor this year.
In addition to Covid, every year, teams deal with injury issues. Hopefully, both the latter and Covid won't hit X at the same time again, and that Steele's risk pays off.
Even without those players, if nobody is sick or not available to play because of exposure, they are still 10 deep.
When recruiting and building the roster LAST SPRING, nobody thought we would be in the situation with this virus that we are now...nobody. Hard to fault them for going on the advice of medical people and/or people who are charged with working with the NCAA. Hard to fault any one for not forecasting correctly what this pandemic would like like 6 months down the road.
But never miss a chance to take a shot at the head coach, right?![]()
