Looks like some put-downism re/XU is being fed to the ears of these players. Coaches need to find out what it is, and spike it.
Edgecliff,

Me thinks these are self-inflicted wounds. The high turnover rate in players has been the consistent negative with CM's teams, though the overall very solid management of the program far outweighs the bad. In the last 18 months, we've lost four eligible post players: Reynolds, London, Eyikor, and that Iowa St Juco (IS Juco). The question is why?

Reynolds left, despite dim NBA hopes, and knowing he would be the man in the post. Rumor has it he was pushed out the door.

London left despite showing some promising moments, like his game at USC. However, his playing time started to diminish inexplicably, and I think he didn't see much of a future at X. How I'd love to have a senior London on next year's teams. He definitely was ahead of the progression of guys like J Love and Farr at the end of his freshman year, and they obviously turned out to be very good players by their senior years.

Eyikor, who I opined X should never have recruited due to his unresolved "hit and run" offense of an off-duty police officer when we recruited him, was supposedly kicked off the team. (Hops, can you confirm?).

Then, soon after the IS Juco commits, we recruit a 4th-year junior. I'm glad X picked up Kantner, as I think he is going to be a key contributor, but what message does it send to future recruits? I can hear coaches telling competitive recruits."If you go to X, your value to the team is safe until a better player comes along. If you come to "xyz" school, that will give us our fill of post players, and we will no longer recruit at your position".

Again, I understand CM's decision to pick up Kantner, but at what cost to the future?

Next year, barring an unexpected recruit or transfer coming on board, X will one have true post player: T Jones. Walter seems like a really good kid, but there is a picture of him in the dictionary next to the word project. It took SOM 2 1/2 years to start to come into his own, and he had a much more polished skill set than Walter coming in.

Hopefully, X can pull a rabbit out of the hat, but our bar for the prospects we're chasing has gone down about 4 rungs. This year is going to be spectacular. Next year........This year is going to be great!

I think this is much more about the 17 class and current players.

Guys see Q and basketball jones as 4 year guys (meaning a point guard in next years class or power forward/center may sit or play very little for two years). Naji and harden are likely 3-4 year guys that will be good and will start. Scruggs thinks he's a one and done but I think he'll be a two and done probably. So anyone coming in next year essentially has to accept very litttle PT next year and maybe 2 years.
