Shannon did a great job over the years. Gannett is a horrible organization. The Indy Star is a Gannett paper and it is a shadow of what it used to be. I sure hope they get a new beat writer for X but if they are truly cutting staff I can't see them assigning anyone with the time that Shannon devoted to the program. I get some of my info for X from the Enquirer App for X but with the internet, message boards, web sites, etc. there is much more available than in the past. Shannon seems like a very nice person and I hope she does land on her feet.

Tom Groeschen covers UC. Wonder if they will have him cover XU also?

I'm curious as to who made the decision to lay off Shannon Russell, the seasoned beat reporter for one of the top rated basketball programs in the country just prior to the start of the season.
Not a very bright move in my humble opinion.

Sent e-mail and got a very unhelpful response saying the Enquirer will cover XU men's basketball. I wrote back and said that unless the Enquirer assigns someone to do it, and do it in a way consistent with their coverage of UC and XU historically, I am dropping my subscription of 30+ years. Don't expect a response to that e-mail, but who knows.

News Flash---- A response from Pete Bhatia/Enquirer to my email questioning the layoff of of Shannon Russell and no announcement on how The Enquirer plans to cover Xavier

Mr. Bhatia writes, "We will still be covering Xavier hoops" . Glad to know that, I thought they might consolidate coverage and focus on NKY, High School Bowling and AAC Basketball. We should all breathe easier.....

anyone ask how or who will be covering Xavier?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Muskieman, I asked specifically who will cover Xavier Basketball and got the short answer that I posted. Looking at the other posts regarding this topic, he has gotten plenty of blowback and it doesn't appear he has a full time person covering Xavier. For me it is a mute point as I canceled my subscription months ago when they couldn't even deliver my paper on a regular basis.

I learn much more on this site then I do in the print media.

If today's "story" in the Enquirer about Maui in 20178 is any indication, Xavier will not have a dedicated sports writer on the Enquirer's staff. That piece was done by Dave Clark, "sports optimizer" at the Enquirer.
