Matthews is obviously a talented player. However, his HS Coach was a "roll the ball out AAU type." Fundamentally, he'll have to dedicate himself should he select Michigan or X.

When your coming off a time out the clock doesn't start until the inbound player touches the ball. The team rolling the ball is most likely losing and they do it because the game is almost over so they want to save as much time on the clock as possible even if it's a few seconds.
Not sure if this answers the question but I went to Leo, not Rita. :D

He left without committing. Decision possibly this week. Not sure this bodes well.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it means " here's the ball, go play", not much in the way of disciplined organized style, maybe not much teaching or coaching development.

Probably weighing where he would get the most playing time as well as exposure for his future. I sincerely doubt he is looking for his choice of a major for a degree.

Correct.

In Chicago, many AAU "coaches" are really only recruiters. They are often rather poor at developing systems, teaching fundamentals or defense, and rely upon out-scoring other teams through superior talent. Those coaches win games when they have the 4 star talent on the court and bench, but usually wash out early in state playoffs.

As noted, the term comes from the coach showing up at practice and rolling the basketballs out for guys to shoot around and run up and down the court, but with little other real core instruction occurring.
