From the Cinti Enquirer today.
Interesting on the salary numbers being thrown around.
I guess the Jerry Tarkanian trust fund must be doing very well.

MY take is that Cronin is playing UC against the threat of leaving for better facilities for his team.

Possibly...and that might work and might not.
UC, like most top D1 schools, have made or are making their investment in football first.
UC is pinning their future on getting into the Big 12 which my guess won't happen any time soon based on what I've read.
Current schools in B12 don't want to divide the pie into a couple more pieces.
And UC just isn't that much of a plum to a Big 12 or any other Power 5 conference.
At least at UNLV he would grow several more inches as he would be the top dog on campus. :)
The football team has had only 3 winning season in the last 25 years.

And, if I am not mistaken, Conferences with as few as 10 teams can, from now on, hold a conference Championship game. That could provide another handsome revenue stream (for a number of reasons) for the Big 12.
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!

CM had a very good chance to go to Tennessee a few years back and with a substantial jump in his salary. Word has it that it was his for the taking. He chose to stay partly knowing that Tennessee was going to suffer NCAA sanctions but mostly he loves XU and this town. I know Louisville is one of the top monetarily valued teams in the Country but not knowing how bad the sanctions will be is a tall hurdle to get over when shopping for a very good coach. Money can talk but winning is pretty damn important too. Personally, I'm not concerned about OU but that's just my humble opinion.

True...see the link below. It will be interesting to see if the B12 adds teams. WVU is an outlier in terms of geography and that's why UC name comes up as a possible add. I've that there is pressure from the Texas legislature to add Houston as another team. Ultimately probably comes down to what does Texas and Oklahoma want to do.

Per Cincy.com - No deal for Cronin to go to UNLV....at least for now.
Agree with Shadow...just trying to leverage a better deal at UC.

Agreed, His daughter and family are here, and he has no recruiting ties in the West. UC fan base is seemingly split.

I wonder how many anti Mick fans think that Huggins will be UC's next coach?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Back to The Future for UC. Their job is as attractive as X was when Gillen took it over program, while it was mired in a low level conference, and had a court on top of an ice rink. I personally hope he stays - for X's sake.
