As for Sean his first year team even though was only 17-12 were playing their best ball in March and w/o an unreal performaance from Pat Carroll may have won the auto bid and in the scond year went on to win 4 games in 4 days to win the A10 tourney. Currently with Sean as head coach X is 12-5 in games played in March which imo is pretty strong.

Maybe, but while X was 7-4 in its last 11 regular-season games, none of those W's were "good" (top 25/50) wins and 2 of the losses were "bad/very bad" losses to #126 Dayton and #214 LaSalle.

Then we had a pretty uninspired opening round win over that same #214 LaSalle team before losing to #65 SJU. I was at both games, and while Carroll was on fire from the arc, X had its chances but didn't capitalize on them. It was a disappointing end to a disappointing season.

Leave it to Neutral to hail Thad's "amazing" coaching job this year, while NEVER giving Sean the credit he deserves.

Is it too much to ask Thad that he make it to the NCAA Tournament the year after going to the Championship game? I know, he lost 3 first rounders, but he still has more McD's All-Americans and Top 100 guys than most teams. Face it, OSU has underachieved this year and diehard Buckeye fans will tell you that. Beating MSU at home, wow, what an achievement. MSU has lost to Iowa and Penn St. this year.

Why do you keep taking shots at Sean for his first year EVER as a head coach? I'm pretty sure he didn't have West, Sato, Chalmers, Myles, etc. He had Finn, Cage and Doellman were sophmores, Caudle, Keith Jackson, Duncan and Burrell were freshman, Brian Thornton's first year after redshirting, etc. Not exactly an intimidating lineup.

Sean's teams have improved ever year he's been the HC record wise.

Guess what, Sean just led this team to the most regular season wins in school history, while earning a Top 10 national ranking.

You have been more critical of Sean than anyone. Sean is a great coach and hopefully he will be around Xavier a long time!!

Funny how some love to embrace Thad even though the guy wanted to leave as soon as he got to Xavier yet they have a hard time embracing Sean who seems to love it at X and is OK sticking around and building a solid program for years to come. As for Thad he is a good coach but to his credit he always makes sure he is surrounded by excellent assistants. This year Thad has 3 senior starters, several high school all americans and his team is 19-12. If Sean does that at X with similar talent Gary would want him hung and again be calling for Everhart to take over the program.

For what it's worth, the Chicago Sun-Times' Herb Gould graded all the B10 coaches today, giving Painter and Bo Ryan an "A", and then Tubby Smith and Matta next with a "B", saying that "These Buckeyese were a little too young".

If Matta's to be criticized for this year, then Miller has to be criticized for his first year as well. If Miller is not to be criticized for the '04-'05 season, then Matta's got to be given a pass for this year as well.

I'm not the one still throwing hissy fits 4 years later because of how Matta left. If he was still here, his critics would be praising him. Talk about not getting over it.

Almost as dumb as expecting no dropoff in a team's performance after losing the #1, #4 and #21 picks in the NBA draft, as opposed to losing 2nd round/2nd round/undrafted players.

thad matta is OLD history, will be history at Ohio State, like Oden, like Conley. the best thing about thad matta is....now get this....he brought an assisstant coach to Xavier named SEAN MILLER! then... now get this....quickly left, and left us with the best..coach..possible..many thanks to matta, history will show he did the best thing for X by the way.....this thread started as pro KENTUCKY and has morPHED To voLLEybalL
