Eleven A-10 Standouts Named To NABC All-District Teams
Daniels, Roberts, Dunston, Forbes and Calathes tabbed first-team selections

NABC All-District Teams
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Eleven players from the Atlantic 10 Conference have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District teams, it was announced on Tuesday. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams to be announced on Apr. 5 at the 2008 NABC Convention in San Antonio.
First-team selections included Will Daniels (District I) of Rhode Island, Massachusetts' Gary Forbes (District I), Bryant Dunston (District II) of Fordham, Saint Joseph's Pat Calathes (District III) and Brian Roberts (District X) of Dayton.
Named to the second-team were Jimmy Baron (District I) of Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure's Michael Lee (District II), Dionte Christmas (District III) of Temple, Saint Joseph's Ahmad Nivins (District III), Shawn James (District III) of Duquesne and Drew Lavender (District X) of Xavier.
Last year Drew was on the ALL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
Doellamn made 1st team all conference
Drew made second team
Stanley made 3rd team
Brown got Rookie team
Cage made Defensive Team
Oh and BTW go to the A-10 site and see the A-10 tourney add and see who the A-10 is touting...

Who deserves the A-10 awards
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

OK, time to take the gloves off.
Can anyone on this august board tell me how many times a Xavier men's basketball player has won player of the week? month? offensive? defensive?honors.
Looking at the NABC I get the distinct impression the Xavier players, their coach and the school get absolutely no respect.
Can someone explain to me, please, why Stanley Burrell is not recognized on the All-District NABC teams?
He certainly has better leadership skills, is consistently one of the best players on the ourt in every Xavier game and has stopped several of the players from other teams who made the NABC teams.
OK, so Xavier gets little respect. But to put Brian Roberts and Pat Calathes on the first team ahead of Stanley and to assign Drew to 2nd team is horsesh!t.
Here is a thought. Every member of this board should begin immediately lobbying the A10 commissioner and her staff. That is probably the only way Xavier players will get anything but passing BTW recognition.
If Sean Miller is not A10 coach of the year, somebody in the place where they count the votes is drinking the wrong kind of juice.
If Josh Duncan is not sixth man of the year, the A10 should be innundated with bitch letters and emails asking WHY?
If Stanley Burrell is not a runaway winner of the defensive player of the year award, the award should not be given.
Stanley and/or Drew should share or win outright POY honors.
Jason rose should definitely be the most improved player and Xavier should have a player on each of the first three teams and among the honorable mentions.
Why? Is it fair to give all the major honors to one school?
The A10 is not a socialistic organization. Or it surely shouldn't be. Xavier deserves the honors because
they are the regular season champions by a wide margin. Their one conference loss (to date) was on the road and they have beaten every team in the league except Richmond.
Name me one coach in the A10 who has done a better job than Sean Miller. Name me one player who has come off the bench and performed better than Josh Duncan. There is absolutely no better defensive player in the A10 than Stanley Burrell.
Name me a better point guard than Drew Lavender.
The A10 conference should take very good care of Xavier and its players. The more games Xavier wins in the NCAA tournament, where they may be the only A10 rerpresentative, the more money the bottom feeders, who frankly contribute not one damn thing to the league, will receive.
Xavier has brought more good publicity and attention to the A10 this season than all the other 13 teams combined. Hardly a day goes by that X is not mentioned in some form by the national media.
Face the simple facts. Dayton may have its excuses for not winning, but Drew Lavender has been playing on that ankle since the game at Charlotte and counting Charlotte, X has won five straight games, three of them on the road in the toughest places to play in the league.
This post is not blatantly parochial, it's flat out partisan. There is no gentlemanly, fair play or any other BS way to put it except to say Stanley, Drew and Josh, Rose and Sean too deserve the honors they've earned. And while we're at it, don't forget C.J. Anderson, B.J. Raymond and Derrick Brown when those three all-star teams and honorable mentions are chosen.
There can be no excuses from the A10 office. In no way can any slights be sloughed off on the coaches or anybody. There is simply no way Brian Roberts-the poor sick kid--is in any way shape or form better than Burrell who put clamps on him like no other defender this season. Ditto for Jimmy Baron.
Having vented and released all that potential anger when we don't even know who will win the awards, I will now stop. Why?
Because history has shown--with the exception of David West--when it comes to decisions made by the A10 administrators, Xavier gets screwed!

Don't get hung up on the individual awards. Xavier is a well rounded team, and it's the team effort that will take them far into March. Come on, the teams leading scorer comes off the bench. BTW, do they still give the 6th man award? If so, Duncan has got to have that one wrapped up.

The people who vote on these awards only look at the statistics.No one on Xavier has really great stats so they will get overlooked.X has a lot of very good players who put team before individual numbers.I'll take that any day.Sean should get coach of the year and Stan defensive player of year.Drew's the best point guard and might be our only first team selection.Stan and Josh should get something.Hopefully our rewards will be another deep run in March.

bluegrass Drew will not get 1st team if they follow NABC.
Like I said look at the A-10 ad for their tourney on the front of their web site and you will see who they think is the star in this league...they should have put the whole team in the add. Beat St Joes tonight and Richmond on the weekend then take the tourney and the sweep will look Shermanesk.

According to the NCAB Home page ... Xavier is in DISTRICT TEN, therefore no Xavier player would be named on the DISTRICT ONE team.
On the District 10 team, Drew Lavender is on the second team. No other Xavier player is on the first or second team.
Having said that however, the selection of an all-star team from District 10 gives Xavier players no chance ... unless you are David West.
Except for Xavier there are no other A-10 basketball schools in District 10 --- OK, OK, two if you really want to count ud as a "basketball school." But there are eleven Big Ten school coaches voting, and I guess that well explains more than half of ten players named are from that weak ass conference, including two from IU on the first team.
