One hell of a "rivalry"

Postby X-Expert » Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:17 pm

I know some Dayton fans claim this is a rivalry for reasons mentioned like because X posters are always talking about UD-I guess that makes it a rivalry. I don't think a sample of fans talking about a program makes it a rivarly. SI says a rivalry is when you play a team frequently and have close series specifically in recent years. Let's examine this and put real meaningful discussion of UD to bed once and for all. In the last 7 years, X has played UD more than any other team in college basketball. They have played them now 18 times. X has won 15 of the 18 including a 7-3 record at UD.X has won 5 A-10 conference championships and 3 A-10 tourney championships vs Dayton's 1 tourney championship and 1 A-10 conference champiunship. In both years that UD won their won tourney and 1 A-10 champtionship, X was seeded higher and went further in the tourney (not completely fair because UD hasn't won in 19 years). In fact, during thi time, teams that have a better winning percentage vs X than UD's (16%)in conference is: Duquesne, St. Louis, St. Joes, GW,La Salle, Richmond, and Temple. If not for the obnoxious fans (both sides) having such a disdain for the other program, this X-UD series has really been a one-sided joke-no disrespect intended.

Now to all X and UD fans. I have made it very clear through truth and facts. Maybe this is just a bad run for UD but have not been in our league for 18 years. UD did win the MCC Championship in 1989 only to win one NCAA game and lose while X went to the Sweet 16. Tragically, UD's last NCAA win.

During the last seven years, X has one Elite 8, one Sweet 16, and three first round wins, and one year where they didn't make it, and 1 one and done for a 6-4 record. So I have pointed out what I never cared to do. To UD fans, you know this information i factual which only you as fans can evaluate the true picture of your program vs X. To X fans, let the facts spea for themselves and continue to look at UD as the nation does-non-event. I know fans all hate the other team, but the truth is-it doesn't matter. X has beaten UD 83% in the last 18 games. No COMPETITIVE rivalry here except with the fans. On the court, there is no such rivalry. Time for both programs to move on-for X it's truly St. Joes in conference and for UD, it should be Wright State out of conference and maybe GW in conference.

Let's carry this out a little further. Xavier has won 34 of the last 46 games.
