Not being privy to the recruiting mechanism back in the 50's I can only relate one personal incident.
I mentioned a prospect for quarterback that might be of use to the football team to Ed Kluska. The kid played for St. Leo in the Chicago Catholic league. Ed checked it out and came back to me with a thanks, but... (His grades were not good enough to get into X.)
The academics, in a nutshell, seemed to be one of the most compelling prerequisites for playing sports at X.
We still did OK with the old Peoria Flash (Bertoia) anyway.
But what the heck, that was just about 55 years ago.

How about pelting the team with snowballs? It worked in 1958. Is there snow on the ground in Cincinnati?
