Re: Depaul game thread
Nice to see Lazar have a solid all around game. Of all the bigs he has the most potential and skill. Wish Ciani the best, but we quickly lost most of our lead with him on the floor and Abu did not help himself with continuing to struggle to make a layup. The future looks bright with both Green and Swain. What I thought was best about Green was he was aggressive taking it to the hoop vs settling for a 3 and once Swain has confidence in a mid range shot he can be a force. Thank goodness for Quincy in the second half. I still can't believe that Abu scored 37 points in a game last year.

Sasa had a heel injury, and they hoped he could make a go of it, but after a few trips, you could see he wasn't able to go. I was happy to see Lazar play last night and hope that the success he had he will build on. He still looked tentative at times and needs to learn he is tall enough not to bring the ball low and not be afraid to dunk it.skyhops wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 3:08 pmNice to see Lazar have a solid all around game. I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Depaul game thread
Add a healthy Freemantle and Hunter (and Craft), with three very good guards collectively, with Green Swain, & Djoko off the bench, and this would have been a Tourney team. I love how great Claude is within the paint. However, when he shoots a three, seventeen-footer, or even a ten-footer, I cringe, much like when Abou takes a three. I've never seen a guy with a smooth free throw form be so awful at any shot outside of eight feet. He needs the backboard. The NCAA has officially decided to list every 10-foot+ shot he takes as a turnover, as it often leads to fast break buckets by opponents. Love his game in the paint, though. Few guards score as effectively as he does.
BTW, on another note, I saw a mock draft on Twitter, and it lists Swain in the top forty for 2025. I know it's very premature, but like Naj Marshall, his game will translate well in the NBA. He needs to improve his shot, but his high FT percentage and good throw form show he has the fundamentals to become a good one. He already is a very good defender and shot blocker. He also has a good handle and rebounds it well. If Claude could develop a consistent 17 footer, and be just average from 3, he will be in the NBA as well.

Anti-homer good to hear from you. I think Claude might have dropped you as his agent though. LOL Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Swain is listed in the top 40 for the 2025 draft. That's crazy. He shoots 16% on three point shots and 46 % on field goal attempts ( half of which are dunks ). He is 6foot seven and is smooth but I must really be missing something. I will admit that I was wrong about Marshall I didn't think there was a place in the NBA for a 6foot 7 wing who couldn't shoot or dribble. ( 30% three point shooter ). He (Marshall) must be hell of a defensive player though. Four years later there he is still in the NBA. I don't think I would put Swain in the top 40 in the Big EAST. He doesn't start on a 14-14 team that is desperate for any front court player. Hope I'm wrong about him but I'm not seeing it yet.

Re: Swain, it was one guy’s opinion and obviously based on his raw talent. Metrically, he ranks as one of the top defensive freshmen in the country, in the best conference, and on a team with a top 5 schedule. That being said, I think he would be lucky to be in consideration as a mid-second-round pick by the end of his junior year. He does compare well to Marshall in some ways, including the fact that that they are both very good in the open court, are good rebounders, and are excellent defenders. Fortunately, he doesn’t share the hero gene of feeling compelled to take seven thirty-foot three-point shots a game. I also think Swain at this stage is a better dribbler than Marshall, who dribbled too high and out of control.
Happily, Marshall has found a role in the NBA as a good defender who can score. Marshall as a freshman was ahead of where Swain will be at the end of his, but I stand by what I said early on this year. He will be the best four-year player on this existing team, though Djoko and Green will also be very good players as well. We know he can’t shoot, and thankfully, he knows that too. However, based on his smooth free throw shooting form, he can become a good outside shooter. He will be League bound…..in 27.’ Then again, I did say Obi Harris would be a lottery pick, so who knows?
