agree Bluegrass. Good Lord what a fun and interesting league. Marquette surging. Creighton rebounding - X surviving lately. The ebb & flow is intriguing to witness. Love this time of year!

Re: Depaul game thread
look - this league is tough, especially on the road. i actually think it's a positive rather than a negative that we could find a way to win on the road when we played about a B-/C+ game. that's actually the sign of a GOOD team. when you can find a way to gut out a win when you really didn't play your best. considering Scruggs TO's, Nate couldn't hit anything, Kunkel was under the weather, and Freemantle had a below average game, this turned out to be a GREAT league win.
it's a BE win ON THE ROAD.
take it. enjoy it for a day. then get ready for Marquette.
we're with you, boys.
GO X!

I will defend Sweets post. He responded to a comment about how tough the loss would be for a lifelong DePaul fan. Lifelong brings history into the mix. The final 4s therefor provide a reasonable argument that the DePaul program is better. Certainly not conclusive and obviously not true for recent history.

UC troll Sweet's comment was a response to Xavier 2005, who is not a lifelong Depaul fan but is a Grad of Ohio State and received his Masters at Xavier so your point is moot. Depaul was a better program during the years X was horrible that is not the time we exist in the today and ancient history is ancient history. Rome was once an empire so was France! What has Depaul done since 2004 let alone what is the record of their last 5 coaches before Stubblefield? I hope they continue their progress this year and with the talent they have it looks like good things will be in their future but Depaul thought that when they fired Joey Meyer and hired Pat Kennedy.pdxmuskie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 11:06 pmI will defend Sweet's post. Xavier's NIT victory in 1958 which most college basketball historians consider the elite post-season tournament until the NCAA overtook it in the early 1960s. It was also the first postseason championship won by any Ohio Division I school. Yes, X had their dark ages with Don Ruberg (1963–67), George Krajack (1967–71), Dick Campbell (1971–73) and Tay Baker (1973–79) but that was also history and not the Xavier program of today.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Mman, you should know better then to include a Xavier Hall of Famer in with those other 3 guys. Don had a 52-51 record in an era when X spent like a $100 on their athletic programs. He coached Pelk and Steve and altho I wish we would have won more, X was super fun to watch.
Didn't look it up but the other 3 probably didn't win 52 games among them! Ruberg was a devoted muskie thru and thru.

Don was responsible for X changing our home scoreboard to have 3 digits. He bled Xavier blue. Also don't forget Joe Geiger was part of those teams ans he recruited Luther Rackley and Bob Quick.

when your first season is your best season 16-10 today's snipes would expect you to be fired. In the remaining seasons, he was only 36-41. He was better as the freshman coach posting an impressive 91-39 record and a win over the Oscar Roberston led Bearcats.SC in DC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:47 pmMman, you should know better then to include a Xavier Hall of Famer in with those other 3 guys. Re: Depaul game thread
In our 65 season, Steve Thomas got hurt with 14 games left in the season. And in 66, Thomas was really able to run and our leading rebounder from the year before, Ben Cooper, lost several toes off one foot in a freak accident which limited his jumping ability. Those two years probably cost him 10 vistories.
