Also, we are playing a fast team and Carter looks soft. Up 8 and we sub in Zack and Carter and start shooting 3's early in the clock and shooting 20%. This is not Steeles finest effort. More KyKy less Q.
i had our interns scrub the endless pages of posts on this thread, and yours was the unanimous winner. Steele continues to show a huuuuuge learning curve. It's amazing how someone can sound so smart during interviews, and seem like a babe in the woods during in game management. Steele continually quotes stats of X having poor shot selection on 42% and 28% repectively the last two games, yet he he let them launch 33 tonight, including Carter (0 for 6), James (0 for 3), and Marshall-Goodin. I don't care that they went 4 for 10. In fact, every UC fan should be celebrating, because it means they'll probably chuck up more this Saturday. History tells us that will probably be a bad thing. Q also had three or four shots on drives which looked like he was conducting a rebounding drill for the bigs. Lines can surely be deceiving.
Jones was unstoppable in the paint, going 4-5, and being fouled 5 other times, yet Steele would rather a team who is one of the worst in the country at chucking up treys, do so at a rate that was slightly less than James Harden's attempts. I believe they shot 10 in the first 10 minutes. Moore, Scruggs, and KyKy should be the only ones with a green light. Q and Marshall should have a stricter limit than a diabetic with sweets, unless they are Reese Cups. It would be inhumane to withhold those from anyone. But I digress.
It seems every player has the green light. Obi Harris would have had a double double every game if he played on this team. Now I see why James didn't transfer. I listened to Steele's post game interview, and he complained about intensity, particularly as it pertains to Jones. Not one word on the low IQ bball. Incidentally, Marshall and Q had 7 turnovers and 5 assists. That, sadly, was not an anomaly. I think Steele is still suffering from coach-buddyitis, and is afraid to make players accountable.
I'm still a fan of Carter, but he needs to be coming off the bench, and Moore needs to start. UC plays Scott at the 4, and he is about the same size as Marshall. With KyKy back, Q's rope needs to get shorter. I hate saying that, especially about a senior, but even Larkin was complaining about him. The fans even booed after Q missed a 3. That's a rarity at Cintas, and frankly unacceptable. As was Steele's coaching. X has played one legitimate tourney team, and has played exactly one complete game this year (against a sub 200 team). That's how you slip 7 spots in the poll after losing to a pre-season Top 6 team.
I am going to put out a Go Fund Me for a big leather chair with the letters MATTA etched in, and place it directly to the right of Steele. Even CM, after 9 years of HC experience, realized he could use an experienced coach, and brought in Dino. I still have hopes for Steele, being the glass 9/10 full poster I am, but even my homerism is being tested.
X is clearly the better team than UC, but the low IQ play which plagues the 1 and 4 spot, and inexperience of Steele could prove to be the downfall. Let's hope not, or Muskieman will have salty companionship when we have breakfast at Perkins on Sunday.
