3 Conference Champs from Greater Cinti area

Postby xu koop scoop » Mon Mar 05, 2018 11:18 pm

XU, UC & NKU winning outright Conference Championships in the same season. This has probably never happened in any other area of the country. All within 20 miles or so. Rooting hard for little NKU now in Horizon Tourney as that's their only way in and we've been there. I always liked the little guy on the block & my daughter graduated from NKU. Would be GREAT on Selection Sunday to hear all 3 schools names. Last year NKU got a 15 seed and lost to Kentucky by 9 pts & NKU pushed it to 5 or 6 before KY woke up. I could see them as a 14 or 15 seed this year against a 2 or 3 seed UC. That would create a 1st I imagine as both teams played in the same arena for home games this year. That had to be a scheduling nightmare. The TV folks know how to push the Committee's buttons for Dream Matchups. I don't see us matched with NKU as their league and record wouldn't drop them to a 16 seed. I could see the committee projecting us into an interesting 8/9 matchup in 2nd round. Any fans of college Basketball in Cincy have to be proud, no matter who they root for. Many of us like 2 of those schools & some of us like all 3. Presuming all 3 get in I'm projecting seeds. At moment I give X a 1 seed, UC a 3 & NKU a 14.

I could be wrong, but I would assume NKU's hopes are gone due to the fact that they lost in their conference tournament to a 22 lose Cleveland State team. I know nothing about the rest of NKU's season and do not know what kind or resume they have, and agree it would be great for the area, but I doubt that they will have a good enough resume to even be considered for an at-large bid unfortunately.

titansbaseball is correct about NKU. Their hopes are gone. I was in hospital over weekend & unable to keep up on all teams. Heck, I was just happy to stay halfway coherent. So my NKU matchups were nonsense. Sorry about that. Hoping XU doesn't lay an egg against an 8 or 9 seed in BE Tourney. That could possibly jeapordize our #1 seed. Being 66 years old I remember the days before Conference Tourneys. Liked it better then. Not complaining. Just waltzing down memory lane. I have surgery pre op set for Tue Apr 3 & if we get lucky enough to play the night before, who knows what my "vitals" might read. The longer we play, the more I am entertained.

NKU's RPI is around 117.
No chance for at large bid.
That's the downside to conference championships for typically 1 bid conferences.
I like what the MAC has done with playing the initial rounds at the lower seed schools home court.
That along with having byes for the top seeds.
Fortunately for the Horizon League Wright St beat Cleveland St and avoided having Cleveland St with a record of 12-22 going to the dance.
