Lets face it-yes UC under Huggins broke a lot of rules. these are facts. they were on probation for two years losing three scholarships. John Loyer was the fall guy to keep Huggins' job. Fortson was in fact driving around in a Lexus that he got from Huggins girlfriend at the time (GM at Lexus dealership). Charles Williams did sue UC for "not knowing the rules." both Williams and Patterson were suspended for getting benefits in the form of money and services from UC faculty and boosters. these are all facts. However, the state today is about X and Ed Sumner. I certainly hope that the only issue here is that Ed and his father getting with an agent outside of the knowledge of Xavier and after he was enrolled. If that is the case, I wouldn't think there will be much of a punishment. UC absolutely cheated on a continuous basis back then and even while Mick was there but that isn't what is being reviewed now. Lets hope there isn't much to it. Trolls like UC fans that come on here to sling mud though is comical given their history for their favorite coach. Only the UC fanbase can see their coach slurring his speech and being incapable to walk (although driving is ok) and somehow blame Dr Zimpher.

As a Xavier fan, we all know that Mick is really not a very good coach. He goes out of his way to schedule the weakest non conference schedule as possible every year to inflate his overall win total. He has not produced against good teams and has done very little in the dance.

Having said all that, he did rebuild a program and has UC at the top or near the top of a league very comparable to the A10. Coaches like that are usually named for every big time coaching vacancy, yet Mick is rarely mentioned for jobs in the SEC, B10, ACC or PAC. Does the rest of the country see Mick as XU fans do or is there another reason why he is not at least mentioned for these types of jobs that are open every year?

Every March experts do a blind comparison for two or three teams vying for one of the last 4 NCAA at large bids. Can you imagine if you did a blind comparison of coaches for say the Louisville job:

Former Louisville assistant coach
Semi-finalist for coach of the year for 2017/18 season
Current team projected as #2 or #3 seed for 2018 Tournament
Won 30 games during the 2016/17 season

they don't want to hire an assistant to go around and get things off shelves Mick can't reach.

Regarding driving,

Let’s not forget the time Otis Campbell hit the car of a family while intoxicated, and for their “inconvenience,” they were presented with a brand new luxury car by a dealer off Ronald Regan Hwy near Kenwood.

Isn’t it ironic that Mick’s two mentors in his illustrious 15 year 4 win NCAA career were two of the biggest rule breakers in cbb history: Pitino & Huggins?

It’s also hilarious for him to cherry pick his record at UC. He was a below 500 coach in the BE, and only amassed a very good record in a sub-par mid-major league.

That legacy, along with his time at UC as an assistant with a zero player graduation rate shows what kind of person and coach he is.

He will always be rightfully known as the dirty little “errand boy” of UNLV West.
