Re: Getting to dance
That formula will change if the new Big East teams bow out early. The good news is a number of the later adds are playing well at the end of the season so if it carrier into the tourney that will help.

Re: Getting to dance
I think a couple of you guys, including Hoosier, are a little too close to this team to see them objectively.
Beat DePaul: we are in barring craziness in other conference tourneys.
Beat butler: in guaranteed.
You gotta look at how other bubble teams compare. Wake forest is a last 4 in with us currently. They have the exact same record as us (19-12, 9-9) with a head to head loss to us. If they don't keep winning in the acc tourney it's gonna be hard to put them in over us.
Clemson and Indiana, both of whom will be 16 loss (16!!) when they lose in the conference tourneys. Syracuse will have 14 losses and an rpi in the 70s or 80s. Cal will have 12 losses in the PAC 12 with likely a rpi in the 50s-60s. Illinois state (last 4 in) is a virtual tie with us in rpi but has an SOS of 125.
Our rpi is 33, sos number 9. Our last 10 admittedly sucks but honestly we stack up really well against the other bubbles. Can't lose to DePaul though.

Syracuse may have lost, but Bilas and Vitale slobber may yet get them in.

One way it changes is if they change the selection criteria. And changing the selection criteria in a way that hurts the BE would hurt all the old BCS leagues, which would in turn hurt revenue. Not going to happen.
The other way it changes is BE schools start playing weak OOC schedules and lose a lot of games. Possible, but unlikely.
For the foreseeable future a mediocre season in terms of W-L gets us in because of 1) our SOS and 2) the opportunities we have to rack up enough quality wins.
I suppose it is theoretically possible for us to one year not rack up a single quality win and a bad loss or two with a similar record, RPI and SOS as this year. But you have to also take the current recruiting strength of the BE into consideration. All teams but DePaul and perhaps Georgetown are improving their quality of recruits or are already competing for top talent.
Let's March!
