Link to an article written in 2015.
X's home court record at the CG - 215-25. Not too shabby.

I was there for many of the memories already shared. When I was a cub scout in 1959, our pack was on the floor during a cub scout jamboree as a dragon. Each of us was in a box we decorated as one link in a long line of boxes. Our cub leader was at the head.

I saw the Royals play there when smoking was still allowed in the arena. Smoke hung around the suspended lights which were about eye level from halfway up in the stands.

While still a theology student at X, I also saw Jesus Christ Superstar performed there in concert with the original album cast before they created the Broadway musical.

My favorite feature of the gardens is the sight lines. The head of the person in front of you didn't even come up to your knees because each row of seats was that much higher than the one in front. I wish they had built Cintas Center that way.
Mark Twain was wrong. Golf is NOT a good walk spoiled. It is a shared personal experience in a majestic wonderland guided by God, whose name is called frequently during the round.

Good stuff Theo. Along with the sight lines at the CG the other thing I loved there and miss at Cintas is having just the "floor" lights on during the game with the rest of the arena relatively dark. It really put the focus on the action on the court. Also the large scoreboard that hung over half court was kind of unique back in the day.

Looking back does anyone remember the martial arts halftime show?
Were you a student or alum at the time?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Anybody remember James Posey driving to the basket and all the lights going out?

I lived in Swifton Village my senior year and could look out my kitchen window and see the Gardens. All the X players had free passes to the Royal games, I knew most of them, and would borrow a pass if I wanted to go to a game. I could leave my apartment 5 minutes before tipoff and watch the game. Usually in the first 5 rows, because they only drew about 4-5,000 fans.

My first experience with the Gardens was the pro Hockey and the pro Royals....in the 1950s.
