I would read your "going hard" to equate to my "jump" and was not implying Kelsey could merely name his next gig. But given Ga Tech financial issues with Perry/Gregory, Bobo obviously has some course in mind. Frankly Mark Schmidt would appear more attractive candidate.longliveskip wrote:its not like Kelsey can just "jump" on these jobs and their his for the taking. Let's be realistic.joetitan wrote:The fact that Kelsy did not jump, immediately on Wright St, Drexel, SLU, etc might suggest early contact w/ Bobo. Gregory may have been doomed for awhile as Bobo waited to season's end to publicize the action. As Bobo is a bit out on the proverbial limb, may he have had the plan in place from the outset ? I doubt Oliver Purnell was contacted.
also, i hear he's going hard after the James Madison job.
we shall see.

Re: The Coaching Carousel - 2016 Version
Georgia Tech has the money to go BIG, trust me on this. If the candidate is right, the money will be there. It's one of those jobs that is in a nice area of the country, good weather, big city conveniences and features, not a drive by job if the marriage is correct. It's more a question of who is interested. Definitely above the Wake or Pitt jobs, but not the Unc or Duke jobs, but could be. UGA is more of fball player, so the area is ripe for the taking.

Just listened to Cunningham and Ken Broo talking about Mack.Willie said he heard some large schools are ready to throw a lot of money at CM.Broo speculated that at some point maybe the NBA comes calling.Good for radio conversation but don't know that I'd put too much into it.Clearly Chris has had and will get more opportunities to leave for more money if that's what he wants.

All of Memphis is in mourning and they are dancing in the streets in the ATL.

That's after the got turned down by several other candidates for more money. It was a calculated gamble, and now Bobs needs football to take the alumni's minds off of basketball.

Tubby Smith leaving Texas Tech after 1 year for Memphis. And the new coach at UNLV, who has only 1 week with UNLV, is interviewing now for the Texas Tech coach position. You gotta love a coaches job .....when you can just jump around for $$$ or whatever reason. But the players cannot jump to any school per the NCAA because they have rules, including no pay??????

Re: The Coaching Carousel - 2016 Version
Certainly a double edged sword...
Players develop a relationship with coaches and want to play for them, so they commit to the school where he is the coach. He leaves, for whatever reason, and goes to a new school. But the players can't leave without agreeing to sit out a year. However if they where granted "free agency", like the coach, what would keep a coach from leaving a school and taking ALL the players with him? Only solution I can see is to grant the players the choice to leave and not have to sit out a year, but they wouldn't be allowed to transfer to the school the coach has gone to. Of course, that kind of ruins the idea that players commit because of a coach. The NCAA is having a hard time with that idea. They are still assuming that players commit to a school, and not a coach.
I don't know if there is one perfect solution that fits everyone's needs, all of the time. But it is a screwed up system.

The NCAA should make the coaches "sit out" a year when they take a new job...just like the student-athleteskyzrex wrote:Certainly a double edged sword...
