I'll second what Muskieman and Neutral said. But while we're at it, after reading the enquirer story and Doc's column, I got the impression that the only reason Xavier won the game was those two injured players weren't playing!!!
I also have noticed a disparity in the Enquirer's coverage of UC and Xavier. Sunday, after the GW game--which I think Xavier won, there was one Xavier story and damn short at that. There were three UC stories including a Doc column.
I remember a couple of years ago telling a poster who said it would be a happy day when the Post folded because he took issue with the Post's coverage. I recall saying "If you think Xavier gets lousy, uneven treatment from either newspaper now, wait until Dec. 31, 2007 when there will be only one paper in this town besides USA Yesterday. And it's only going to get worse. I promise. Also, I understand the Enquirer will soon raise the price of the daily in rack papers to $.75.
Again, in fairness to Dustin Dow, who does an outstanding job of covering Xavier, I suspect he's not long for the Enquirer unless he gets kicked up to a bigger or better beat. You can see what happens when a sub comes in. The young lady did a creditable job but referred twice to the fact that Dayton was shorthanded.
Thanks, ESPN!

Re: Thanks, ESPN!
I have been thinking that for the longest time and wondered if anyone else shared my feelings. Artsy-fartsy is the term that always jumps into my mind when I see it. When I was working at X a few years ago they first came out with the Power of X theme and as I recall had three versions of a much more attractive video. I personally hate this one. Both the images and the music I find distasteful. I assume they pre-tested it but I wonder on whom?Pierre Dracot wrote:If so, it doesn't present a positive image, in terms of production values, concept, or general appearance; in fact, it does the opposite of what was intended: it looked like a video that an amateur might have thrown together and posted on YouTube.
It's just what somebody thinks ...

Well, I guess there is a lesson to be learned here: Don't get up at 5:45 AM and workout.xu9697 wrote:It was bad enough I could not watch last night's game on ESPN or ESPN2 (yeah, Winter X games and MSU at Northwestern is good TV). But this morning, I get my lazy rear out of bed at 5: 45 a.m. to have a nice workout and watch some Sportscenter. Turned it on at 6, got on the Elliptical...and 35 minutes later I was done. Amazingly, in that 35 minutes, the only game featuring 2 TOP 25 teams was not even mentioned, nor did I see it on the sidebar as one of the things coming up soon.
I really needed that 20 minutes of preview for a Super Bowl that won't be as good as the game these teams last played 4 weeks ago. Thanks, ESPN.
No, I be concubining.

That ad is horrendous. If I never have to listen to that cheese trance or hear about the university of the "21st century" (which we've been in for nearly a decade now -- not exactly forward thinking anymore...) I will be very, very happy.Pierre Dracot wrote:Speaking of the Xavier ad that was shown a number of times during the game, who produced it? Does it represent the best effort of whoever it was that did so? Was it done at Xavier, by Xavier students? If so, it doesn't present a positive image, in terms of production values, concept, or general appearance; in fact, it does the opposite of what was intended: it looked like a video that an amateur might have thrown together and posted on YouTube. To be honest, the UD version probably cost a whole lot less and did a much better job of accomplishing its objective.

Re: Thanks, ESPN!
also, I object to Xavier advertising for the campus expansion.
Incoming freshman will likely never even see construction for the expansion.
There's a lot of good reasons to come to Xavier. But I don't potential students care that in ten years a construction project will begin.

HAHA! That is some serious cheese trance. I think it was put together by a raver kid...."The Power of X" + Trance music = Raver. I get a chuckle from it - however not the image you want to present to the public about your university.
