Re: Pat Kelsey and Charleston in March Madness and
I like Pat and think he is a great coach, but look at his opponents this year and tell me where a Q1 win happened and how many Q3 losses his team has. His team killed Q3 and 4. 28 Quad 3 and 4 games is not a tough schedule. Few teams in the top 150 have played 16 Quad 4 games, like Charleston, with an SOS of 175. Pat deserves a chance at an upper-tiered team, and Dayton fans are even thinking he could be good for them, and I do believe that an A-10 or equivalent league should at least be in his future. He may someday be a top-tier coach; I just hope it is not in the big east at a team not named Xavier.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Pat Kelsey and Charleston in March Madness and
Certainly quality of opponent is a significant factor in seeding and rankings for the team. Quality of opponent when ranking the success of a coach becomes a bit more nuanced.
Miller getting credit for destroying quad 3 and 4 teams would not make sense while coaching Xavier. Xavier has better recruits, so the coach should be able to easily win those games.
Pat however coaches a team that likely has recruits on par with the Quad 3 and 4 teams they are consistently beating. Charleston might be getting slightly better players but probably not grabbing many 4 and 5 star players.
I'm not saying Pat is an amazing coach that would certainly win a national championship if he had Kansas's players. That may be true but that is not a conclusion I would draw. Pat may struggle to get the effort or buy in from 4/5 star players. His strategy may work better for certain types of players that tend to be 3 star.
Additionally, the caliber of opposing coaches may be higher when facing teams in the power conferences. They may be able to expose weaknesses in his game plan, strategy, etc. This is likely part of Muskieman's argument.
I certainly agree that his success should get him a shot at a job in a better conference. Maybe Charleston will get a change to move to a better conference?

Muskieman is not a fan of Kelsey for some reason but I wasn’t a fan of Steele (nice guy bad coach). Kelsey is one of the most underrated coaches in CB. Xavier made a big mistake going with Steele and his father in law instead Kelsey or Oates, but we didn’t get Miller. Give Kelsey a chance MM!

I guess you didn’t read my whole post but that doesn’t surprise me. Kelsey has had a great year but look at what teams he played. I hope he gets to a better league.skyhops wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 12:36 pmMuskieman is not a fan of Kelsey for some reason but I wasn’t a fan of Steele (nice guy bad coach). Re: Pat Kelsey and Charleston in March Madness and
Thursday March 16th 3pm March Madness Pat Kelsey's 12 seed team Charleston plays against a 5 seed San Diego State. This is Kelsey's third or fourth time in March Madness as a Head Coach. I am expecting his team to UPSET the 5 seed. (they are expecting upwards of 40 new Head coaches will be hired this year...maybe he moves up the food chain of Head coaches??? especially if he wins a game or two....)

Re: Pat Kelsey and Charleston in March Madness and
Pat needs to have a discussion with Sean. The primary reason, in my opinion, that Charleston lost is shot selection. The number of dumb shots was disastrous. I'd be shocked if they lost if they fixed that 1 problem.
