Quoting Calipari, talking about last years Ky season....."You have to have more than eight scholarship players........If I had to do it again, I would have had a couple more players"

His point was that LAST year they couldn't go hard at practice and could not defend teams like others teams (specifically Louisville) could do. He also went on to say that
he is doubtful the new rules will have any effect on how teams can defend and that....

"So we're going to press, play more physical, bump and grind, put our arms up in the air and hip check guys---That's how we're going to play........
BECAUSE NOW WE HAVE THE NUMBERS. "

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? And how long has Cal been coaching? And how many championships has he won? And maybe now those that only seem to criticize can see that X is far from unique. Even the greats have off years. I do hope (and believe) that last year will prove to be just that....an off year, not be repeated again for some time.

The evolution of the program is why the current coach, regardless of who he is, is (or should be)open to criticism for things like not making the tournament and not being in the top 40. .

The "evolution of the program" is exactly why we should believe that last year is not a trend, but just a bump on the road. Criticism, yes....but not a complete dismissal of anything positive. Amazing to me that I do not hear ANY criticism of Cal by Kentucky fans.....only a belief that last year was a fluke and will not be repeated ever again. In fact, the only criticism I hear is of the PLAYERS and how they just wouldn't do what the coaches wanted them to, and criticism of their lack of effort. But I don't see how anyone can criticize the EFFORT by the X players last year.....their BB IQ and lack of talent in certain areas, yes....but not their effort or lack of trying to do what the coaches wanted them to do.
