I remember hearing Jordan could jump 36 inches and thinking that was as high as any human could jump, athletes must be evolving.

Almost 45 years ago, David Thompson, who played a N.C. State, set the bar for leapers with a 44 inch vertical. Here is a quote from an interview he gave in 2009:

"FACT: 'I could tip a quarter off the top of the backboard,' Thompson said. 'But I couldn't put anything else up there.' Also, Thompson was closer to 6-3 than 6-4. But he had an astonishing, 44-inch vertical leap."

Not to take this off topic thread off topic, but did I hear Jalen Reynolds can reach the top of the backboard? Am I remembering correctly? If that's the case, what's his vert- like 2 feet? (said jokingly)

Re Sato: " It doesn't hurt, either, that he runs a five-minute mile, has a 40-inch vertical leap and a chiseled frame with the wingspan of a much taller player." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/ ... /index.htm

In my high school weight lifting class, there were a decent number of people clearing 30 inches and a few around 36 inches.
