No. 9 Seed Florida State Ends the Musketeers' Magical Season
The hopes and dreams of a Final Four and potential NCAA championship run were abruptly shattered for the No. 1 seed Xavier Musketeers on Sunday night against Florida St. After controlling the majority of the game, XU relinquished a 12-point second half lead to fall to No. 9 seed Florida St., 75-70. After being knocked out by X in the Round of 32 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, the Seminoles exacted revenge against the X-Men in this year's tournament to advance to the Sweet 16 to take on No. 4 Gonzaga. Xavier senior J.P. Macura laid it all on the line in the final game of his fine career for the Muskies, scoring a game-high 17 points before fouling out with just minutes remaining. Karem Kanter, whose career also comes to a close as a Muskie, finished with 15 and Paul Scruggs recorded 11. Xavier closes out the season with a 29-6 record, which is one win short of the most in a season by a XU team.
